SHSU's McClown-Laughing Stock of NFL

Postby Stallion » Mon Sep 27, 2004 11:56 am

since we rarely hear from McClown's brother and sister who like to keep us up to date on The Greatest Player in the History of Sam Houston St. University in Huntsville, Texas-I noticed that the NFL highlight shows were having great fun with McClown's outstanding 3 fumble performance in a single game before being benched in yesterday's game.(shocking I know since I thought Mike Cavan was the only one that was an idiot for benching McClown after his memorable 8 turnover performance in two games in his SMU days before he went on to "STAR" In Division 1-AA). Not to be out done but special recognition should also be given for leading the NFL in sacks with 12 and also leading the NFL in Total Sack Yardage Lost with-120-almost double the amont of the second worst QB who has lost only 68 yards in sacks. He is the most prolific fumbler and sack King to come into the NFL in years. The man who exemplifies bumbling, stumbling, fumbling will be playing Arena Ball in 2 years.

Scoff all you want, but that guy's the most successful Pony in the pros since Dale Hellestrae.
Stallion, what's your NFL resume, by the way?

Give him a break. Look at the team surrounding him. We could probably give the Cardinals a run for their money.

McCown's O line didnt do him many favors while he was here, but he still cut and ran. He obviously had some talent, but he wasn't a guy who seemed to make his team better under adversity. Then he proved it when he bailed. I don't wish him bad luck, but he isn't a Mustang either.

Hell, our OL is better than the Cardinal's.

Stallion, why do you always stick up for Cavan? As a recruiting aficionado, I figure Cavan would be the last person on the planet you'd support.

Cavan was a fine recruiter until Malin ruined it all.

I still don't get the pile on with McCown though. He is and will always be a Mustang in my book.

SMU the black hole for QB's

Postby Sam I Am » Mon Sep 27, 2004 12:54 pm

McCown left SMU because after Flanagan, SMU became the black hole of QB's. Making pro ball is all the vindication that a player needs to show whether it was the team or the man who had the problem.

To suggest McCown will be in Arena ball in a couple of years is both harsh, inaccurate and uncalled for. Maybe he broke Stallion's heart by leaving for SHSU - I don't know. The fact is that he has ability and he has the size/strength etc., to play in the NFL. He also has one healthy receiver (Fitzgerald) with any NFL talent, at least until Boldin gets back, and zero NFL-caliber running backs .... not to mention the aforementioned awful offensive line.

Dennis Green, who of course doesn't know anything about football, has said many times that McCown will not be a good player, he'll be a star. Several writers who cover the NFL professionally have gone on record saying he has as much physical ability as anyone this side of Michael Vick (who also fumbled three times, and I'm sure is making international flight reservations as we speak so he can try to salvage his career with a stint in NFL Europe).

You're bashing him for getting sacked behind that "Olé" offensive line? Think how many he'd have if he couldn't run like he does and if he didn't have the strength to fight off some of the smaller guys on his own. And as for fumbles - yes, he needs to cut down on that. However, Mark Rypien led the NFL in fumbles and led the Redskins to the Super Bowl title. Kurt Warner coughs up more balls than a dry-heaving cat, and he's got a really bad Giants team sitting at 2-1.

The fact is that the Cardinals could make Joe Montana seem mediocre. Remember when Vinny T. was in Tampa? He was an inch away from being laughed out of the NFL. Then he escaped, fared OK in Cleveland, and did quite well in NY (jury's still out on Dallas). You can have the greatest or worst player in the world, and if you surround him with garbage talent, you'll never know the difference. Until McCown gets some talent around him, it's impossible to assess his performance. So what say you bury your vendetta against him for a while and put away the hatchet?

Well, Stallion...I was wondering just how long it would take for you to 'dump' on McCown. I would hate to be someone who works for you. One bad day and you're ready to fire 'em. Why don't you just crawl back in your hole? Can't find anything + to say about the present day Mustangs so you've gotta go digging into the past? While some on this board may still consider McCown a 'Mustang' that's their choice. However, his diploma says Sam Houston State and he refers to himself as a Bearkat.

And don't go knocking Div.1-AA ball too much...a few Div. 1-AA teams have knocked off some Div. 1-A teams this year. I'd love to see McNeese State play TCU. Or Montana play Texas Tech. These would not necessarily be 'gimme games' for either Div. 1-A school.

I'd wager you've never even been to a Div.1-AA game in your entire life.
