why?
it's a regular part of PonyFans
happens to some degree every year after every loss
i knew after an A&M loss "the sky is falling" crowd would be out in full force

Nick what exactly were you expecting for a team not even
in the Top 30 going against the #8 team in the country at home?

Ok we didnt look great but how many unranked teams would have at Kyle Field last night?

Sure there is always a chance for the miracle upset, but I certainly was not suprised
and thats why one week ago today my prediction on PonyFans was:
Texas A&M - 50
SMU - 17

Nick honestly don't ya think this week will be a much better predictor
of where we are and if we have taken a step forward or backward?

No...we rolled out a huge marketing deal base upon or ability to compete with the bigs.

You don't think jj was consulted, can we play with these guys before we make a huge push to take their place.

Do you know how often Vegas is wrong, rarely is the answer.
We were a 15 pt dog and we should have played in that vicinity....

This is the problem, I think at 2.75 a year utep shouldn't be our barometer...a lot of people are happy with the results...I'm not looking for 7 and 7 with no work, no assistants recruiting and us putting all our eggs in 1 basket. I know that's ok with you so why argue...

I actually was not overly impressed by aTm for a top ten team. I think aTm will lose more than 1 game this year IMO. Our turnovers made us look worse than we really are. I say we take it out on UTEP.

You may be right about "why argue?" when you for no reason
take a direct shot at me with a comment like above.
No Nick I am not ok with 7-7, but I also realize like AC/DC sang
"it's a long way to the top" and we have made great strides
in the last two years in coming from where we were the
last twenty years. My goal for now is the same as Orsini's
Top 25 and I think we will be there within two years.

apples and oranges....short term vs long term
yes they think we can compete with "the bigs" long term
but today?....how?.. as an unranked team?...not even in the Top 30
compete with #8 team in the country at home this year? yeah sure.
how many experts in football were predicting a close game?

I would be willing to bet the farm that June knew that too. Which is why he PLANNED and PRACTICED the onside kick knowing that at some point, to have a chance, the Ponies would need a momentum changer.

I can't understand all the June bashing. Because the play worked (at least from an Xs and Os perspective); all the Aggies were trucking downfield in the opposite direction to setup blocking for the return. If the kicker had executed, we'd all be talking about what a gutsy call it was.

I agree 100%.

After consulting with TheLovelyMrsPunch, our conclusion is that if you take the three screw-ups and add them all together, it's about the same as marching the length of the field. So instead of giving A&M 3 TDS, give them 1. Also, without the two picks and/or we recover the onside kick, we score 1 TD, maybe 2.

So if you engage in a bit of revisionist history, I think it's very possible that the Mustangs could have gone into halftime tied, and finished either somewhere in the 32-21 to 39-28 range.

Yeah, yeah, I know mistakes and the ability to capitalize when other teams make them are all part of the game. But had we played mistake free, it would have been a pretty competitive contest.

The main concern now should be our ability to heal up and refocus after a short week.

I think we're good enough to play with anybody, but not nearly good enough to overlook anyone either.

Pics or not, aTm was still going to score 40-50 points. Our only chance to keep it close was for the run and shoot was to score. Yes, the pics/onside was terrible and ended the game for us before we started, but we needed to score to make it respectable. That being said, down 14-20, the pass to a wide open cole on 3rd down hurt big time. We go 21-20 and the story might be a tad different, I still think we lose, but it might have looked respectable.

Oh well, on to utep.
