Do you really think the team didn't prepare for a QB change?I'm not sure where all the hand wringing is coming from. Kyle struggled last year. I would bet the avid posters on this page would flip out if he didn't improve this year. Jones (who has developed more quality college QBs than any PonyFan) thought KP looked off and made a change. He went w/ someone we KNOW practiced w/ the 1s over the last few weeks (i imagine in case a game like yesterday came up). JJ ended up playing pretty well. The members of the team who speak to the media all seem to be believers in Jones. The admin believes in Jones. Donors believe in Jones. Certain vocal PonyFans don't. RGV had a nice list of silver lining takeaways. Bottom line the team took it on the chin from an elite team that is in the running to win the conference. I'd rather support the team and the QB we go with and have that be that. If it ends up being JJ (and he plays well) there's not going to be a controversy. We know what will happen if KP plays bad. But four pages talking smack about a kid based on some dude's twitter seems like the negative culture Jones, Rheinebold, et al have wanted to change.

Re: Do you really think the team didn't prepare for a QB chaJJ Mc has been in the offense for 3 years and the players seem comfortable with him. I think we will be fine if Coach Jones has him to start.

Didn't NM State run the R&S or something like it with their old coach? If so he has had 5 years

That's right Hal Mumme's offense is somewhat similar to ours. Good point. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Sweet! Even more positive news. Sometimes it takes a little change. If Kyle comes back and performs, awesome. And if it's JJ, we've got a senior QB behind a senior line. Sounds good! [img]http://xs206.xs.to/xs206/06381/flamingfrog.jpg[img]
Re: Do you really think the team didn't prepare for a QB cha
Mumme's offense is the same as Mike Leach's... because they worked together on the offense years ago. The Air Raid uses some aspects of several offenses... part 1980's BYU, part Air Coryell, part West Coast and part... small part... R&S. Leach doesn't have a lot of plays... his philosophy is this; it's easier to teach someone where to line up than to teach them 200 plays. Meaning... he runs the same plays out of various formations. Ex: 4-wide, 5-wide, 3-wide w/ a TE and a RB, 3-wide w/ 2 RB's, 2-wide, 2 TE's and a RB and on and on. Another reason why Leach had success every year w/ a Senior at QB until Graham Harrell came along was the fact that they practice totally different than any other team. When they're doing 7 on 7 drills, instead of one QB taking the snaps and only one WR catching a pass on any given play, he will have 5 QB's in the pocket and each one will throw to a specific receiver. So QB 1 throws to WR 1. QB 2 takes the snap, looks at 1, then throws to 2 and on down the line. Then QB 1 moves to 2 and 5 moves to 1 and they rinse and repeat. This way... on every single play every QB is involved and every WR running a route has a pass thrown at him. There's no wasted effort and nobody standing around doing nothing. It's sheer brilliance when you think about it. Every QB knows the offense, knows where every WR will be on a given play, and every WR catches tons of passes every practice because they are always running a route and having a ball come their way. Even though many of you probably hate him, you should check out his book, Swing Your Sword. Lots of great insight and I can't wait until he's back coaching again. College football is more fun w/ Mike Leach in it. ![]()
