SMU in ATLI was really excited to see the signing of Eddie Printz with the SMU football program. Some have expressed surprise at our ability to sign a prospect like Printz. Don't be surprised. I live in Atlanta, and I can tell you that the profile of SMU is rising in this area. Georgia only has 25 schollys, and they usually sign their class during their junior year. They've already committed to their QB for this class. Georgia Tech runs the triple option, so they were not a factor with this kid.
This area is a hotbed of football talent. Parents are really impressed with SMU's academic profile and the potential for their kids to get jobs in the vibrant Dallas economy. June Jones still has a lot of clout in metro Atlanta too. We could really pick up some good kids in this area. The Ponies can compete head to head with the Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Ole Miss, Virginia, Maryland, NC State, and Georgia Tech. These are the main southern schools that pick up the smart, athletic kids from this area. Here is the link from the Atlanta Journal Constitution: http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2011/09 ... une-junes/ Check out the comments at the end of the story. I'm hoping our coaches will come here to eat some peach cobbler, and sign some ballplayers. Pony Up!!
Re: SMU in ATLThanks for the info. I heard the pear cobbler is pretty good too in Georgia.

Re: SMU in ATLthat is great news. what really stuck out in his comment was that he decided after sunday night.
Re: SMU in ATLJust a small note. He has committed, not signed. Committments are non binding. He has said he is solid and I believe him, but make no mistake, others will continue to try and get him.

Re: SMU in ATLI live in Atlanta (Buckhead), and am making it a point to go see Printz at some point.
FWIW, GA peaches aren't very good. "smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: SMU in ATL
Agreed, which is why I don't spend a lot of time following recruiting until LOI"s come in. I really do hope we hold onto this kid as I think he would be great for the program, but if anyone thinks his commitment means his phone is going to stop ringing, keep dreaming. GO MUSTANGS!!!!
Re: SMU in ATLNice symmetry when you think of Highland Park's Matt Stafford going to U. of Georgia.

Re: SMU in ATLInteresting stuff. Signing day for juniors is a LONG way off though.

Re: SMU in ATLAs a native Atlantian, I am glad to see SMU recruit from Atlanta and the area. We need the best. Not just the best from Texas.
Re: SMU in ATL
While I generally would agree with you in a lot of cases, recent articles that I have read about Eddie and his family indicates that the WHOLE family is firmly committed to this choice. The father indicated that their family's word is their BOND and the word commitment means something more than a MAYBE to them. Eddie didn't just wake up and say that he was committed to SMU after one or two phone conversations with our coaches. He and his family have toured the country for well over a year and met the coaches of all the schools that he was interested in. This was an informed choice that appears to be as solid as any coach could hope for.
Re: SMU in ATL
That is fantastic to hear, and I certainly will take him at his word when he says he is 100% committed. Can't wait til signing day to see his LOI come in. I think he'll be great for the Mustangs and look forward to welcoming him and his family to the Hilltop! I just briefly flashed back to Carter Wall who was "100% committed to SMU" and a big cheerleader to other recruits - until he visited TCU and pulled a 180 overnight shortly before signing day. If Eddie is as talented as advertised, he is going to be put under IMMENSE pressure by other schools to reconsider, and I am glad to hear that he can lean on his family to support his decision. GO MUSTANGS!!!!
Re: SMU in ATLEvery now and then you read about a guy who commits early and is so firm in his commitment that he has his high school coach act as a buffer, basically warding off college coaches before they get to him. Hopefully Printz's coach will do that.
