I tried to get pumped up, but just couldn't. Last night was a strange experience that I can't explain.

Seemed like everyone was tired. The players and coaches seemed down too. Nobody was really fired up.

In the Dicker / James glory years, students would stay on beer buses well into 1st Q...out to buses at halftime, back in during 3rd. Q...plus,tons of folks would wander up the The Stadium Club, late 3rd. / early 4th with backs to the field "networking"...have our fans EVER really cared??

It's always been about "being seen" for too many of our fans. I always found it entertaining to watch the coeds (and moms) wearing those newly purchased fall wool fashions when it was still pushing 90 degrees

dress down for goodness sakes...if you really want to be noticed

Our crowd on third downs was embarrassing. We were part of the bleacher beating too in 106 as well.

Guess what grandma, you have 2 choices:

1) Stand up & cheer with us on third down & you won't feel the vibrating aluminum on your back, or

2) Enjoy the massage.

If Margus Hunt has already learned that 3rd down noise helps the team, everyone in the stands should too.

From the stadium, you could've heard a violin playing on the boulevard last night. Sad.

Examples:(1) "the kick is complete"; and after a first and ten play he announced "gain of four. Second down and 9." But at least he is not encouraging the crowd to make noise when SMU has the ball and is trying to convert a third down like last year.

And all energy left the stadium after the UTEP player was injured. I'm not sure if it was concern for his health, the lethargic play of the team, or the elevator music played during the injury. Personally I believe it was the elevator music. That was a beating.

Ha I had called it weather channel music, but elevator works too

I have never seen music played while an injured player is down. I thought that was kind of classless. That and having the play by play on the PA is another example of our stellar game ops folks.

What was the first song they played while he was down? It was like a happy 80's song. The girl next to me and I were both like wow I can not believe they are playing this right now!

I thought the elevator music was fine while the player was injured. Might have been better to have nothing but I did remark to my seat mates that I was happy they were not playing some blast music or other such stuff while the kid was down.

The PA talking during Amazing Grace was annoying too. It's a very solemn song & him talking over it was obnoxious.

I thought the baton twirling during Amazing Grace was a little disrespectful.

As a student, i was pretty disappointed to remember that our stadium always looks empty when you walk in. Hopefully SMU will expand enrollment long term with the new engineering and education schools. Too many greek students leave at halftime to go pass out or keep drinking.

UTEP covered the spread by 7 points, which is unacceptable.

The atmosphere will build gradually as we keep winning year-by-year. The bad news is that we would be the worst team in big 12 south by a large margin, so it might not hurt to build a winning tradition in c-usa before jumping ship. We're lucky to have such an easy 3-game stretch with nw state and memphis coming up, so hopefully we will see a different team against tcu. Go ponies

Opponents we play pretty-well dictate the emotions of our crowd or any other school's for that matter - particularly for non-AQ schools. Easier to get psyched up for a top 30 program than it is for a C-USA opponent. Sorry but that's the truth. If we get into a bcs-BS conference you can bet it'll all be different so I really don't blame the current typical "SMU crowd" when they're used to what's been provided over the last 25 years of boredom & not even mediocrity.

We should all be happy & grateful that people showed up when there's so many other things to do in the DFW area. It took the Frog 10+ years to build their crowds so we can't expect it in two to three. We're building a base & last night was a success !!! GO PONIES!!!

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

I had thought that too, in the past. The problem is that if the moves start happening now, we're going to get left out of the AQ conferences, and likely for a long, long time. So we really may not have the luxury of building a winning tradition before trying to get in to a better, albeit more difficult conference.

i thought it was a great turnout for a game against Utep coming off of a pretty bad loss. Nothing against Utep, but there is essentially no rivalry there, meaning no hate or emotion. Then, the game had no flow. Utep was obviously not a great team and we were playing poorly. One thing that the JJ era was supposed to bring was exciting football so even games like these would be fun. Not happening right now. The team looks hesitant and the QB switcheroo seems to be a big part of it.
