Traumadoc wrote:The incident unfortunately happened and yes there is more to it but everyone is missing the point. This is a new team and a new coaching staff that has been to two bowl games. These are some of the best student atheletes and ambassadors the school has ever had playing football. The entire SMU family needs to get behind coach Jones and the players to support their efforts. The incident with the alumni band is only an example of the old school culture around the campus. We have a chance this week to come together and change our old ways. President Turner, Athletic Director Orsini, Mustang Club and Band Director Dom Hopkins take charge or assign someone to organize and cheer our boys at the Pony Walk this family weekend. Remember its FAMILY weekend. I will be at the corner cheering for the whole team.

So far I agree with what most of the people are saying in this thread. I haven't posted on this forum in ages and had to create a new log-in when i was told about this thread. I'm quite sure that the Alumni Band supports JJ and SO. They have been through many years of losses brought on for the many years of our rebuilding and supported the team then. These two people have been actually making progress in being SMU back to relevance. I would like to know how much of the old ways you know or if you are just a current parent that takes a glance around and thinks he/she knows what is going on, because if you do then you would know that if you want to request something or change something it isn't to post in a public forum and leave it at that.
Someone beat me to the punch in taking that step.

Also for your information I'm at the corner cheering for the "Pony Walk" and the team just meanders through like they have to do it. I wonder if you polled them how many of them think that it is a distraction, because you always hear about athletes having a ritual or routine every game day.

After posting i remembered something else. Of the section of the blvd the team walks past there are three tents of organizations. I don't recall the other tents going out of their way to line the blvd and start chants so why pin it all on the "old farts" who have horns, why not bring them into the discussion as well.
Last year when a football game was rained out but wasn't officially called off for quite sometime who was it that entertained the huddled masses in the concourse with upbeat music to try to lift spirits and keep people around until the official word came down.
I will agree that there needs to be change, but it is throughout the whole SMU Community that needs it. However this pointing fingers and such is not the way we need to go to.
We are all adults (I think), I'm sure what needs to be said has already been said from I've read because I'm sure this can go in circles without getting anything done.

So in summary be considerate and ASK in advance when you want to try to plan something for game day. The current band director would be a perfect place to start in this situation and word can be sent to the AB to make their decision since they are technically a volunteer group after all not paid performers who are at your beck and call to perform on cue.

traumadoc - If your story is true (I certainly have reason to doubt it and believe that the AB probably did not have the instrumentation available at the time), I would suggest that you contact the powers that be. Posting on Ponyfans will accomplish nothing. I would know...I never accomplish anything when I post on Ponyfans.

Good day.

How has this thread possibly gone 5 pages?

Honestly, who gives half a crap about this.

Just some guy who got his feelings hurt and wants to [deleted] about it. Absolutely nothing of value here.

My vodka was too warm by the third qtr. I had to ask for extra ice in the 4th.
Why don't we have bathroom attendants?
