If that is the case then he should be playing Kaiser or CP to get some experience. JJMD is not going to be here next year. IMO the problem with KP is that he just doesn't/can't process things fast enough. JJMD reads the WRs fast enough but is probably lacking in arm strength and quickness. GO PONIES!!!

i don't think he wants to play a freshman. jj can win games. he sees the field well. he makes good decisions. he has arm strength. i'm ok with him. one the freshman will take over next year. it was obvious in cs that padron had not improved from last year. i was hoping he would. who knows, maybe he will get another chance if something happens to jj.

Doesn't say much for Jones' confidence in his Coaching abilities-he should share some of the blame
You have a kid with enormous raw potential-who had almost ZERO experience.
He was thrown into play as a freshman when he had no business being out there-he survived by improvisation and actually led his team to great success-unfairly raising expectation from SOME(not all) of you.
Then he has a good Sophomore season-not great and not up to unrealistically, stupid expectations of many on this board-but good. PS The rest of the team wasn't that great either last year and had mediocre talent good enough to finish right about mediocre .500.
Now he has the experience to translate his raw talent to success and he is out because of two plays against a vastly superior team-and I do mean VASTLY SUPERIOR despite what the Cheerleaders think.
I haven't been so critical of the decision to play McDerrmott as much as I am critical of not playing Padron at least for about a Quarter against UTEP and the next 2 games. I think it is ridiculous to claim that McDerrmott should keep his job just because he can beat 3 gawd-awful football teams while Padron struggled against teams like UCF and Texas A&M. So here we are stuck with the prospect of struggling with yet another inexperienced albeit Senior QB-a long and familiar refrain on the Hilltop instead of reaping the benefits of an experienced upperclassmen QB.
So June stand in line for some blame on not being able to develop your own talented QB.

Stallion- you make some good points. I don't think any of us feel that KP doesn't have the physical capabilities but his mental decision making seems to be lacking and too slow. You can coach a person to throw right, move his feet correctly etc. but IMO it is much more difficult to change his mental processes. In the R&S you either 'get' the system, the philosophy and the reads or you don't. After 1 1/2 years in the system I feel KP should be much further along than he is and I suspect that JJ feels the same way. I was musing the other day about why somebody has not created a virtual reality system that could be used by coaches for training their QBs. Could be a real money maker.

You know a lot of people questioned Andy Dalton at TCU at about this same time in his career-heck a bunch of people questioned him his Senior year too. Yet Dalton kept improving year after year and then incredibly to most observers actually developed into a great NFL prospect. No one and I mean no one would have predicted his NFL success at the start of Dalton's Junior year. You got to stick with your talented.experiencd QB prospects. You've been telling us June that success will come with experience in this Offense. Get Padron back into these next 2 games. Or I guess we've got to give Patterson a +1 in QB Development because its been 4 years and we are still waiting.

That is total Hor$hcarp...Dalton won 11 games as a starting Sophomore and went 42-7 as a player at TCU...you can't compare Dalton to Padron, or anyone else. The 'fog of war is what JJ calls it and it has to do with the look in your eyes during the battle and Kyle hasn't had the right look in his eyes apparently during the last 5-6 games and they felt it necessary to pull him. Nothing else.....Kyle may pull out of it and I hope he does, but he hasn't looked right in really the last 7 or 8 games and comparing him to Dalton's situation is total crap.

FACT-Andy Dalton improved his NFL Draft prospects more than any QB in the Country in Junior and Senior year after 3-4 years of experience. Patterson + 1 in QB in Development. Heck he's gotten the most that could be expected out of all his QBs over the years including starting 2nd and 3rd stringers after injury to the starters.

Dont you have to be able to prove a fact? Improving draft prospects is subjective

It would make sense to rotate a lot in these next two games as they are both very winnable - then Kyle shouldn't feel quite as anxious and maybe get his head on. As many have said, we are in year 4 in a QB offense without a very talented QB that grasps this O - which apparently takes 2-3 yrs to master..

Why was it that Padron had very little Football experience?
Texas, the football capitol of the country and a big kid does not have any background in football! There must be an explanation. Could there be a Dyspraxia issue in his background that has been undetected and still masked that he deals with?
The first time I saw Padron on the field he struck me as a kid who is by nature Stiff and Tight. The kid who can't dance and might have a self confidence issue. He did not seem to have fire nor a dominating personality. He to me looked like a natural baseball player not a football player. He seemed to me to want off the football field when the going got tuff.
If any of my intuition has merit what is Jones to do to?

Because he didn't play as a Sophomore or Junior behind the most successful High School QB in the Country-Dodge at Southlake Carroll and he got hurt in his 3rd Game as a Senior.

He lost his senior season to a broken leg. Prior to that, he was playing behing Riley Dodge and Greg McElroy. And what's with accusing him of having a learning disability? And what do you mean by that last incoherent sentence? Makes it sound like you're the one with some sort of dyspraxia.

ponyscott wrote:If you are a D-1 coach with a QB starter with a 3-5 record in his last 8 games and was going to 3-6 ( TAMU was going to to be the 6th loss) in his last 9 starts and one of those wins was against THE worst rated defense in the Conference ( ECU) and also one of the worst ranked in the Nation and SMU had to win it in Overtime with a DEFENSIVE INT (Richard Crawford) , and one game of the wins (Tulane) was won after the QB was throwing the ball away and the WR actually went and caught it for a lucky TD ( Aldrick Robinson) , there should be unrest in the ranks and a shakeup, whover is the QB even if he is a great kid. The first half of all those games had either no SMU touchdowns or very few points, which made all the second half's a come back situation. In addition, with all of his work with the WR's and his multiple starts over the past two years, he should be hitting his stride, not regressing. Kyle worked his friggin [deleted] off this past off season, looks good physically, is a great kid and wish him the best and hope he comes out of this funk....in other professions could it be called 'performance anxiety'? He means well and wants to be good, he just has to make it happen when he is in there. The coaches lost faith in Kyle for a reason, and Kyles knows it better than ALL of us. He HAS to engineer the wins. All this talk about JJ not winning his first start are also BS, as he engineered the win, however he did it. We watched the replay at the Monday lunch and as Jones showed the passes in Slow motion, the throws were good, caught on the run and one of the passes that didn't look good where Beasley had to come back to catch it on the 9 yard line, there was a reason he threw it that way. His QB rating was a 136 for the game, whats wrong with that?
We should be behind whomever is out there and if they aren't winning on a consistent basis, we should be concerned. Lets see what JJ can do the next two weeks and when Kyle gets in the game, we should be behind him and hope he kicks [deleted], and then we really have a QB controversy.
