Why catch the deflection? He will just catch the kick directly!

Technically it has. If a kicker tries a very long kick and it falls short a defender can catch it in the field of play and return it. I know that is not your visual but it is someone catching the kick directly.

Exactly. But it would be nice to see Margus just pluck one from the sky behind the line of scrimmage, step on the back of the holder , plow through the kicker and just continue on down the field.
