If conference rivalries are built with neighboring schools and played yearly and the super-conference destroys natural rivalries with neighboring schools, then I think SMU, BAYLOR, etc. get some of those players that in the past went to TEXAS, TT, A&M, OU, etc. TEXAS, OU. etc. hurt themselves by leaving their 'hood'.

I think we could start a new SWC and get rivalries and tons of interest, defy the BCS - have a playoff with someone in another conference left out and proclaim the winner NATIONAL CHAMPION. Kind of like what the AFL did to the NFL. I think the recruiting would be better because families could see their kids play more games, etc. The SWC could be SMU, BAYLOR, TULSA, HOUSTON, TULANE, UTEP, RICE and SAN ANTONIO. You would have DALLAS, SAT, HOUSTON and NEW ORLEANS television audiences not to mention EL PASO, WACO and TULSA which should also be decent. I say TEXAS, TT, OU, OSU, TCU and A&M are going to loose local and state interest (all thought they will gain national money, etc.) I would not be surprised if law suits and loss of local fans etc. doesn't destroy the super-conferences. As an example, TEXAS A&M will have a much harder time being considered a powerhouse team. They will be looked at as average or maby below average.

Totally agree. I would even go so far as to invite the so called BCS National Champion to play the national chamipion of the kind you describe. It is ridiculous to let the BCS run the sport.

Why would there not be 5 Super Conferences?

ACC already at 14 with Texas pending
SEC has 13 now,
Big East - logical home for Kansas, K-State and maybe even Baylor and SMU
Pac 16 - At 12 with OU, OSU, TTU, and BYU logical options
Big 16 - At 12 with iowa state, missouri needing a new home, maybe ND
Pay Lashlee more money

Not my area of expertise, but I believe the 56 schools left out will bring an Anti-Trust Lawsuit against the BCS and its member institutions if this thing goes down the way it appears its heading. There is good and bad precedent with which the plaintiffs will have to contend. Trump's USFL lawsuit against the NFL might be good precedent for the plaintiffs because, as I recall, he won, but just didn't prove his damages. The damages aspect should be the easiest part of this case especially for schools that have seen their status diluted since the original formation of the BCS. Ultimately, a settlement where the plaintiffs get some ability to compete for national championships with the BSC schools would be the best possible outcome.

Funny, the reason we are in this pickle is because OU won an antitrust suit against the NCAA to secure its own TV rights. Not an antitrust expert, but the BCS may actually pass antitrust muster since the bowl system was kept in place and there is no playoff of sorts and all 120 of the Division 1 schools are technically members of the BCS, just some are from auto-bid conferences. I suspect that will still be the plan, so that it doesn't run afoul of antitrust provisions. Its just that no one from a non-auto bid conference will ever get to play in the championship game, but may get to go to a BCS bowl game.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Of course the BCS could avoid a lot of these potential problems if they allowed 6 BCS conferences (all AQ) and had a national playoff.

GO PONIES!!!
