If he stayed at Texas and played 2012 and 2013, what else would you call this year. If he transfers I guess you can call this season or 2012 his redshirt year, doesn't really matter . My whole point really was that if he transfered here we would only have him for one year.

how would he play two more years? you've already conceded that he has played 09, 10 & 11. that's three years. if he plays next year, that's four years. no more eligibility. if he sits out next year, he could play 2013.

i do agree that if he transferred, he would designate next year as his redshirt year and play 2013.

my point is that he can't have the current season designated as his redshirt year since he's already played this year.

as it has been noted many, many times here, one play burns a redshirt. calling this his redshirt year is not a possibility.

He would be eligible for a medical redshirt because he did not play over 30% of his teams plays this season. That would make this season like he essentially redshirted. Randy Mckinnon did the same thing last year. He got a season ending injury against UAB essentially making that his redshirt season. He got to come back this season for his fifth year.

you're not making sense to me.

goldenstang wrote:The logic is off because you only get a sixth year if you are hurt for more than one season. So far he is only hurt this season. You don't get a sixth year because you want to transfer schools.

if he is only hurt this year and would be medically cleared to play next year, that would mean he only missed one season due to injury since a voluntary redshirt does not qualify under the medical hardship waiver criteria. if he were still recovering next year and would have to sit out due to injury, then he could petition for a sixth year once his eligibility expired. so yes, he could potentially qualify for the waiver under the 30% of plays rule.

the point is that he would have one, possibly two to play elsewhere. the second would only be granted if he received the waiver and was medically unable to play next year.

but, on a good note, i do agree 100% that you don't get a 6th year just because you want to transfer schools.

sorry if i'm all over the place here, i should really be working and not posting. not trying to confuse or [deleted] you off.

Would be interesting. Not the best player to transfer out of UT, he actually got his chance and fell relatively flat unlike some other famous transfers. He would only be eligible the year after next which would be Printz's first year at SMU. Doubt he would transfer to a school where he would potential be benched either his first or second year there. Not to mention he has not shown aptitude in the R&S.

I have a feeling that Stallion is going to get on here and explain the difference between a redshirt and a medical hardship waiver. He will probably also go into how there is no such thing as a "medical redshirt."

Lol I think we have confused each other a bit. I think we are on the same page now. You are right if he were injured next year or still recovering he could possibly get a medical hardship waiver.

People refer to medical hardship waiver as a medical redshirt, forgive me for using slang. It doesn't really change anything I've said.

Actually Calallen I am the one that always is anal about making this correction. The reason I do is that if you do not distinguish the two properly, every year after the first game someone wants to know that since a player sprained his ankle on the opening kickoff they should go ahead and redshirt him now since he only played one play. So if you distinguish between redshirt and hardship, maybe, just maybe, it will be better understood. Hardship you have to be out for the year early in the year. Redshirt, one and done. And I agree with the other stipulations as discussed above.

I do agree it is picky, but I am an old man so I can do that sort of thing. Stallion gets called out on so many things, I want my credit where credit is due. :)
