PK,

I haven't seen the story in the DMN yet but yesterday the Oklahoma State President was quoted saying that. We won't know until after they meet to confirm Neinas as the new Commish, but I would think Texas is not too keen on inviting any combination of SMU, TCU, or Houston. Their actions so far would indicate wanting to expand the TV footprint of the conference so adding Texas teams doesn't really do that. I agree though its nice to be mentioned as a team that they are talking about.

Chuck Carlton tweeted:

ChuckCarltonDMN MT @Dave_Matter: Heard this recently from Big 12 school official: If Big 12 can survive, league needs to get Texas to change mind on TCU.

ChuckCarltonDMN RT @AaronDickens: Our BYU site is reporting tonight BYU is "highly likely" to join Big 12 if stability is assured. http://t.co/BMtmGLUf (F)

Not looking good guys...maybe we end up as TCU's replacement in Big East??

I just don't think Texas will change its mind re: TCU. If they can swing BYU, Louisville, and Cincinnati it expands the footprint of the conference with quality programs and keeps Texas happy. I think this will be the Big 12's first option. If any combination of the above mentioned teams falls apart I think the pecking order is as follows:

Air Force
TCU
Houston
SMU
???

I don't even think SMU is on the big east radar...Navy, Army, Airforce, UCF, ECU & Houston are all schools big east is looking at. haven't even heard us mentioned

There is an article this morning that breaks down potential Big East candidates and we are in the article. So there is that.

We won't be going to the Big East. Our best shot is a CUSA-MWC merger that ends up in an AQ spot.

Feel free to beat yourself up wishing for something better, but it's not coming.

Once again, no one on here knows what's going to happen or what's not going to happen. It's all conjecture and rumor. Texas is only one part of the equation... there are other schools in the B12. OU has a lot of input as well.

Pac stops at 12, SEC will probably stop at 14 and ACC I bet now holds off at 14. Big East will probably go to 12 and Big 12 goes to 10. That makes about 62 BCS teams. SMU just isn't in that group if you are looking at the overall attractiveness and performance of the program. The long term biggest problem is that we have to giveaway tickets to get 20,000 in our stadium on most nights. After watching it for half a Century, I'm not sure that is really ever going to change much. I know it won't change if SMU doesn't market the program and actually compete against and beat teams our fans care about playing.

Chicken and egg; can't get into an AQ conference because of low attendance; low attendance because we aren't in an AQ conference.

If Big 12 goes to 12 teams and gets WVU, Louisville/Cincinnati, and BYU then the Big East is finished as a conference. We can hope for a MWC invite combined w/ TCU headed back to the MWC or the MWC-CUSA merger. Those are our best options right now. But I think the Big 12 tries to get back to 12.
