DMN:
Ryan Dermody, a 6-7 forward from Loveland, Colo., said he made a oral commitment to the SMU men's basketball team. Dermody picked SMU over Colorado, Hawaii, and UC-Santa Barbara.
The women's team got an oral commitment from Brittany Gilliam, a 5-10 combo guard from Tyler John Tyler. She picked SMU over Texas A&M, Missouri, and North Texas.

Ryan Dermody must be a player because he has a 3 star rating from Rivals. Dermody is a skilled small forward with above average athleticism. He has a nice shooting stroke from behind the arc and should only get better as he develops more strength. He has a 3.0 GPA and 26 on his ACT. He loved the campus, the fact that we are moving into Conference USA, and the overall direction that the program is going. He was going to visit Colorado this coming weekend, but called off that visit after committing to SMU. Other schools in the mix were Belmont and Vermont.
Looks like a great pickup for Jimmy!!!

Above-average athleticism (read: "active defender") and can shoot the 3?
A welcome addition, indeed.
Way to go, Coach Tubbs!

Dermody is the 2nd coming of Chad Elsey. Looks kind of like him, and plays alot like him. I hope he has a better head on his shoulders, though.
He's an excellent spot up shooter, was All-State in Colorado last year, and wass nominated for the state 5A MVP award. He's a nice addition, a good compliment to the inside players in this class.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

Don't remember Elsey being that tall, thought he was about 6-3 or so. Do remember his head being off kilter, though. No wonder he wanted to be a lawyer...

And transferred to sit the bench at Baylor High, of all places.
Wasn't he 6-5? Whatever .... a 6-7 shooter sounds sweet. It'll be nice to see us hitting 3s, rather than the opponents.

to be accurate the Rivals article said he was offered by Col. SMU, Belmont, Vermont and Cal Poly.CoHoopsTracker.com has him as the No.1 Forward in Colorado and No. 5 Player overall. I found that he didn't make the first or second team All-State last year but was an honorable mention All-5A pick. One of the AAU coaches in Colorado described him as follows: "With good quickness and athleticism, Dermody is a solid D-1 pick. His overall fundamentals are solid, but this rangy player has the potential to make the outstanding play at any given time". He's a WAC level player, and maybe better with a great senior season.

I'm surprised that he wasn't offered by any MWC schools. If he's a quasi-high caliber recruit, you'd think Wyo, UNM, CSU or the like would've offered. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's going to SMU, but I wonder where those schools were in the process?

Ryan was not at all interested in the MWC...only Big 12 or CUSA.

I like the idea of another guy with 3 pt range. That's such a big part of the college game these days and we've shot very poorly from 3 pt range for the past few years. After B-Hop's 40%, we didn't have much from long range last year. I think Isham, Pearson and Miller and Simpson were all 30% or worse and I don't even want to think about the other guys shooting the trey.
I'm looking forward to watching coach Tubbs' teams playing tougher D, but I'd also like to see some stretches where the Ponies start lighting it up from three point land. That can change the momentum of a game in a hurry.
