i would be very surprised if we ened up in anything other than the cusa mwc merger.
going indie is another option but everyting would have to fall exactly right.

If we dont go BCS this is how I would do it:

Houston
Southern Miss
Memphis
UCF
ECU
Tulane
Temple

Airforce
Boise st
SDSU
Tulsa
SMU
Fresno State
UNLV

Pretty good basketballand football mix

Yeah, but who listens to Pitino in all this? If it were up to him, they'd add Temple and Nova.

He actually makes the same argument that we do for being included in B12 (and TCU. UH) - regional rivalries. Anyone listening to that argument in Austin? Nope.

the formation of a new conference of non-BCS All Stars is highly unlikely

yup, it's all or nothing. otherwise, don't you think Pac12 would kick out Wash St? that's what makes this conference shuffling so difficult.

Navy has its non-football sports in the Patriot League...they don't play FBS football and there is 0% chance they will press Navy about anything. Remember, Navy is an independent in football and they aren't leaving any conference behind if they go from a football indy to Big East football-only.

Got it....I guess Air force can do the same thing, and with the airfare so cheap for them wouldnt be a big deal...

the problem af has is that the mwc will not let them keep their other teams in the mwc while they trot off to the big east to play football. since af basically has an unlimited expense account they may trot all their teams to the be or go to the wcc like byu.

Would the WAC be an option?

With there being a strong chance that there will only be 3-4 football schools left in the BE, shouldn't CUSA attempt to talk merger with what is left of the BE? It would make sense with CUSA's presence in the east and TCU fitting into the west nicely, could easily become the first 16 team super-conference. Admittedly, this would create all sorts of confusion with basketball.

Was referring to Air Force's options, but you may be on to something.....Go against the flow.

If the raid on the BE is in essence a total raid and that the only teams left are USF and TCU (perhaps Cincy) for football, then I would see it being in CUSA's interest to have a football only merger between CUSA and BE to get their autobid (for two years). We could hope that Boise or USF win their conferences this year (not a huge stretch there) and then see what happens. And then going after select MWC teams to get to 16. Do we really want Hawaii, UNM, UNLV, Wyoming and CSU for football? Yeah, UAB, Tulane and Rice are our doormats, but at least they're easy to travel to. I think UH, SMU and UCF should really put together a plan to go after such a merger with the BE. TCU is not going to like it, but they have no where to go with a UT blackball.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
