Here Comes Louisiana Tech...

Postby MrMustang1965 » Sat Oct 09, 2004 10:31 pm

Louisiana Tech loses to Auburn, 52-7. Good luck against the Bulldogs next weekend, 'Stangs. I'll be in Huntsville for Sam Houston State's Homecoming game against the Nicholls State Colonels (Div.1-AA, Southland Conference). But I'll be following the SMU game.

Sam Houston State leads NCAA Division I-AA football in both total offense with 534.0 yards per contest and passing with 397.8 yards per game. Quarterback DUSTIN LONG (6-3, 210 Port Neches-Groves) leads I-AA football in passing and ranks fourth in total offense. Wide receiver JARROD FULLER (5-18, 180 Jacksonville) is sixth nationally in pass receiving.

Ryan Moats is a great runner. He is likely to put up 250 yards against us. If I were the La Tech coach, I would teach them a simple option play this week.

No kidding, OP. I sure would. But thankfully, I doubt they will do that, so we should fare better next week against Moats. At the very least, I don't think La Tech will get 496 YARDS RUSHING against us. Unbelievable. Utter domination tonight. Embarrassing, demoralizing, pick an adjective.

I am here to eat crow and apologize to Stallion for telling him to blow it out his *ss the other day. He was right. That said, I would like to reserve my right to tell him to blow it out his *ss on future occasions, if that's cool with everybody.

Moats went out of the Auburn game with a sprained ankle in the first quarter and did not return. Lets hope for a 2 week healing period.

Any injuries of note in the Rice game?

Hard to figure what kind of opponent La Tech will be. They've certainly been on the short end of some lopsided scores, although they've come against top competition. Let's just hope it's a competitive game and that someone comes to watch. Any guesstimates as to the crowd? 15,000?

Yes, pride was hurt and is likely out for the season.

pride of SMU fans, maybe...but I think you underestimate these guys. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see them bounce back and play well against La Tech. I expect La tech to come in at the top of their game, as well, after getting blown out yesterday. Should be a good one. Again, I hope a bunch of folks turn out to witness it.

Moats is listed as questionable. If he doesn't play, it obviously really hurts our offense.

Either way I think this game will probably be close. SMU seems to play much better at home. The Mustangs beat us last time we came there.

I look for Louisiana Tech fans to number somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000. I am looking forward to it. Very sad that for this to be our last trip into Gerald Ford as a conference foe. The SMU trip is very popular with our fans.

Speaking of Moats, there’s another Dallas kid that got away. He’s averaging 160 yards per game and LA Tech has played at Auburn, at Tennessee, at Miami and Fresno. Ya think we could use production like that in the backfield??

How's the LaTech passing game this year? Or are they "Moats and 10 other guys" on offense?

I will be the first to give reality checks out on this board.........however I never thought we had a chance against Rice. Their offense is very difficult to defend and Hatfield is such a great coach.

I do think we have a great chance of beating La Tech. This is a team that we match up well against. I will go ahead and call the upset.........La Tech and Nevada or the only games left that we have a chance of winning.

And UTEP. I know they beat Fresno, which is a great win (punchlines aside, Mike Price is a damn good coach). But they're not OU or Miami just yet. I'm not ready to call that shot yet. We're GOING to beat LaTech and GOING to beat Nevada. Frankly, I'm not sure we can't beat Tulsa, too. We could go 4-1 down the stretch of 0-5. I'll say we win .... 2 more.

That will be three more wins that last year. Then recruit like hell and crank it up another notch next year!

Don't forget Tulsa. We have them at home and should win, but lose to La. Tech and I think we go 2-9. So now it is 4-7 or 2-9.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!!

I don't know that we can beat UTEP, but yes I did leave off Tulsa. UTEP's team has gotten better every week. They should have beaten Boise.....beat Fresno at Fresno. Fresno has been a strange team losing to La Tech and then almost losing to Portland St......can't quite figure them out.
