My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCUI went to my 1st SMU game ever vs. TCU in 1978. It was our last year in the Cotton Bowl, before moving to Texas Stadium. I remember Arthur Whittington took the opening kickoff, all the way back for a touchdown. So, when was your 1st SMU game and what year?

Re: My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCUMy first game was some time in the 1968 season when I was two years old. My first memory was of a Mike Ford led team some time in the late 1970's.
Re: My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCUMy favorite game was 1980 down in Austin.

Re: My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCUA beautiful, sunshine drenched day. Remember walking around on the field afterwards just soaking it all in.
Re: My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCUMine was in 1954 when I saw SMU beat the Univ. of Arkansas in Fayettevile. I was mad as hell! The next year I enrolled at SMU and have rooted for the Ponies ever since. I saw us beat Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl in, I think it was, 1956. Had about 60,000 in the stands.
Long live Inez Perez!
Re: My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCUI really don't know when my first SMU game was because I was too young to be conscious-probably between 1961-1963. Pretty sure I went to every game since 1964 and it comes into focus in 1966 from the very first Kickoff when whispers went through the stands about a kid named Jerry LeVias going back to receive the opening Kickoff. Levias had me on the edge of my seat from thereon-as opposed to rolling down a Hill which I bet most kids will remember about the SMU experience in the Future

Re: My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCUI believe my first SMU game was SMU-Texas Tech in 1948 or 47. Doak Walker was playing and SMU won big. The game was in Ownby Stadium and shortly after SMU moved to the Cotton Bowl. Just looked it up. The score was 41-6 and it was 1948. Later that year I saw SMU beat A&M 20-14. That game was in the Cotton Bowl.
Got to correct my self. I have a hazy memory of standing in the end zone of Ownby watching an SMU against a team that seemed to be called NTAC. I was in the Knot Hole Gang and it cost 50 cents to get in. I looked it up and it was 1944 and the team was Texas Arlington. SMU won 49-0. I was nine years old.
Re: My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCUfirst was Navy v SMU 1963.
Best was v Baylor 1966 1980 v Texas great, also. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCUMy first game was 1997, SMU vs. BYU in the Cotton Bowl. Lost 16-19.
Was visiting my sister. At the time I had no interest in SMU, just a high school punk that didn't understand the history. A couple of year later I follow her footsteps. Too bad the team stopped improving. I wish I had memories of rooting for a really good/relevant SMU team.
Re: My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCU1997 also. @TCU. Sr year of HS visiting college friends from both schools. Brutal loss.
Re: My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCUFamily weekend 1989....cant remember the opponent, just remember the cheerleaders and a warm sunny day...
Re: My 1st SMU game was 1978 vs. TCUNovember 25, 1967 against Baylor in Waco. SMU won the game and I became a fan for life. I vividly remember Peruna running across the field and how cool I thought that was. I'm sure glad I thought the Bears on the field were not that impressive.
Best game in person, October 23, 2980 against UT in Austin. 20-6.
