..what do you want, Mr Pony 29, a detailed, Dr. Barry, Marketing White Paper? Jump in your '87 Caddy an make a run up to Kroger, they are having a sale on pears today......If you can't undersatnd the general concept here, then go back to discussing Ryan Mentzels' punting stats. BTW, your posts usually define "Christmas". BTW, with all due repsect, and seriously , does your "mindset", posts, vibe, help or hurt this program? Long Live Ken Rosenthal.
Re:Sure. Let's see if you learned anything in your sales & mktg. course. My mindset, posts, vibes, etc. are for the good of SMU. Nothing more, nothing less. And where did I ever discuss Ryan Mentzels' punting stats?
Re:
Jeez, I don't know where to start to answer this diatribe... 1. Yes, SMU is worthy of a NAME coach, but as long as the BCS exists and we are not part of it, no NAME coach is going to be interested unless you are willing to pay a BUTT load of money...ya got any??? 2. I don't know ultimately whether or not Bennett will prove to be a great coach or not, but he needs to have more than two recruiting classes to prove it. Most freshmen are not going to make an impact until they have had time to mature, and most teams out there doing what we want to be doing have Seniors and Juniors dominating the two deep roster. Bringing in a new coach now will not make any difference in the results this year unless his initials are J.C. 3. You act as though we have some kind of control over the NCAA / SMU Admin / Joe Fan who is going to drop us to 1-AA. Well maybe you do...so go for it. My only choice is to support the program or quit...I choose to support it. I'll put my two cents worth in when given the opportunity, but [deleted] and moaning on a fan board ain't going to do anything to change the situation.
so.........no [deleted] and moaning allowed on this board? Only "sunshine" allowed? Do I understand your post correctly? Ok.....(said in my best Jerry Lewis voice).."put your flags on your cars this weekend guys, let's pull for the Ponies, here's to a big V over Ruston State, go Ryan Mentzel".....how am I doing, do I fit in now? Long Live Dennis Miller.
Re:Twisting that around a bit there, aren't ya? PK said: "I'll put my two cents worth in when given the opportunity, but [deleted] and moaning on a fan board ain't going to do anything to change the situation." PK didn't say it wasn't allowed. PK said that doing so wouldn't do anything to change the situation. So, to answer your question "Do I understand your post correctly?". Nope, you didn't.
The last hurrahHixontoLevias has every right to be downcast, discouraged, disaffected, etc. We have a terrible losing record and weak attendance. Those fans who want to maintain support despite adversity are right to emphsize loyalty rather than being only fair weather bandwagon members. But pledging loyalty to the alma mater does not require us to suspend judgement or insight about what kind of team or coach we have. Winning is essential to survival of the program. How we get this done is a different matter. I have consistently said that others have done more with less. If Rice could attract an effective idealist like Kenny Hatfield, we will have to do the same. And as for this week's game with La Tech, I will be there hoping for a major upset. Go ponies!

Re:You remind me of another poster on this board who needs reading comprehension help in the worst way. You can [deleted] and moan to your fricking heart's content on this board or while sitting on your can in your throne room it really doesn't matter...what I said is that it ain't going to do anything to change the situation. Feel better now? And since when did you start worry about fitting in???
You can tailgate prior to the game with the hottest young women in the Country cavorting around. Tickets are cheaper than the Mavericks, Stars (who are on strike), Rangers and Cowboys and great seats are available. You have bands, mascots, tradition all there. There are business leaders from Dallas go to SMU games if you or a business associate want to network and they are tailgating on the Boulevard, too. The players give 100% and are playing for the joy of football not because someone is paying them $10 Million. So, enjoy the games, the atmosphere, the comraderie, the contacts and perhaps you might find greater happiness and success in your life. And if that doesn't work, you can still go across Bishop Boulevard to a beautiful chapel and spend a little time with the Almighty, who might give you a little insight into the happiness thing.
Re:
Maybe I don't understand your definition of "name" or your definition of "worthy"--there is nothing in our history to suggest SMU is worthy of a name coach that I can see. The only name coaches we've ever had in the modern era either made their name after leaving (Hayden Fry) or left when their name became Mud (Meyers, Collins). I guess you could consider Forrest Gregg a popular name, but he'd never coached on the college level before. And I guess we almost had one in Bill McCartney before he left us at the alter. And sorry, but I don't think there is a big enough butt to carry the money it would take to get what I consider a name coach, someone like a Steve Spurrier, to the Hilltop.
HixsontoLeVias is the one who brought up the term NAME coach so you can ask him for the definition though I suspect it is no different than your definition. As to worthy, we are all worthy of more than we get...don't you think? I for one have never suggested that we could get a Name coach to come here for the very reason I expressed above, there just isn't enough money floating around that can be allocated to that purpose at SMU. Coach Fran at TCU was not really a NAME coach until after he got TCU up and running which means there are alternatives out there to a NAME coach, but chances are you won't be able to hold on to them very long once they become a NAME coach.
First if we fire Bennett before his contract is up, we're not going to get anyone we'd want to hire. Coaches want to know that they will have a chance to succeed or fail. We haven't given Bennett time to fail. We're not a BCS school so the odds are we won't get a "NAME" coach, anyway. We are no longer in the SWC. We have a chance at the following coaches, up and coming coaches, damaged goods (eg. Mike Price), and older coaches slightly past their prime that might want a swan song (eg. Bobby Ross). Now, possible names that will come available in the future are possibly Bunting, Zook, Mac Brown, Nutt. You still have Neuheisel and McCartney out there lurking and they're damaged goods, but SMU would not hire because their sins were related to recruiting in their recent past. SMU does not want a coach who will get us back on the NCAA watch list. I say, let's let Bennett finish next year and then see where we are. If we cut him short, no one worth anything will come here, because he won't feel that he has time to build a winning program.
