Offensive Line Gets an A

Postby Stallion » Sat Oct 01, 2011 10:25 pm

Ok maybe an A= because of penalties-but they gave McDermott the time to throw long all day. What I really noticed though are 2 highlite reel pancake pulling blocks on both of Line's long runs. I know the first one was LaReibus and second one was someone with number starting with a 7. Look for them if you watch a replay

Not to take anything away from Tennison, because he's really played great, but when is McJunkin expected to start again? He's suited up every game, but I don't think he's gone in after his injury in the A&M game.

June said he has been happy with Tennison and that Mcjunkin was still experiencing pain when pushing people. My gues is UCF because McJunkin should be 100%

Not only is this the most experienced line, but our depth is great. Tennison, Gottshcalk, Free? Likin' that for sure.

Either 1310 or 820 (radio) said before the game that our offensive line has the most starts of any offensive line in the country.

Brooks did not have a good time against their #90. He was a beast. He (#90) also had a key roughing penalty.

This is not a complaint, merely an observation. Not a knock on Brooks, but rather notice of a pretty good defensive end for TCU.

Beachum had an awesome block on the OLB. Had him high and tight, raised him up with arms extended them drove him down hard. Also, because his right leg was planted the pocket integrity was kept on the left side with the guard engaged. Textbook.

Maponga gave Brooks a fit from time to time. JT looked a little stiff in the hips, hopefully the bi-week allows for some plyo-work.

I would say a B+ as well, because the false start penalties are just getting ridiculous! It spoils what was otherwise a phenomenal effort by these guys and they need to get it under control in a hurry.

kelly turner had a great block on one of Lines big runs. Pulled out and sealed a LB - very nice. He has great mobility for a big'en

I am not as concerned with the false starts from Beach, considering the injury.
They won, and have film to learn and improve from. WIN, WIN

Yes, even one of our backups coming into this season had been a starter and was a senior.

I know this is a minor problem now, but are we able to move underclassmen into the game to get them some reps to have them ready for next season? KP has had an entire season as a starter, but are we trying to get them some experience? I should have looked when I was at the blowout of Memphis.....

Backups have gotten some playing time due to injuries and big leads. I think we will be fine, but our QBs may want to concentrate on a little quicker release next year.

They deserve extra credit for the last touchdown pass. JJ had a chance to check off on several options before he threw mainly because the line did a great job of protection.

Win the line and win the game. Sounds easy but it is not. O-line did get an A without the penalties, but in reality gets a B with them.
JJ is building a team with depth and love the rotation we can play.

I remember the days of the Pony Express. Two o-lines to grind up ANY team. Look at stats between the first half and second half of those early 80's games.
