TCU - SMU rivalryI have a number of friends that are TCU grads and follow their web site pretty closely. I asked them about what was going on. They said the posters that are being so classless are all young and just don't know anything about the lean years before they started winning. And they are embarrassed about what those students are posting there, in fact one of them said that there are a number of them that have been around for a long time that don't even read it that much any longer.
Having said that, I read a lot of the stuff being said here about and against TCU, and it isn't that much different than what they are saying about SMU. The stuff being said about Patterson is personal and really childish, therefore the posters on here aren't any better than the posters there. And, yes, I know that it's just a message board and that makes it perfectly ok to hide behind a made-up name and say whatever you feel like, as that's the nature of things today. If Patterson was our coach and brought the success to SMU that he has at TCU, there would be a movement to erect a statue of him outside the stadium. You might not like what I'm saying, but you know I'm right. The bottom line is that this is an old and established rivalry. Each team has gone through periods of being good and periods of being bad. SMU is on the way up and, like it or not, envious of TCU's success in the past few years. Will TCU start to decline? Sure, at some point, but right now about two-thirds of their team is made up of freshmen and sophomores, some of who were highly ranked recruits. They will be very good for the next two years, or maybe even longer. SMU is senior laden, just like TCU was last year. It was bound to happen that SMU would win a game against them, but will that become a regular thing? I'm not so sure. Savor the moment. If a TCU fan posted a congratulations to us on this board, there is no doubt that a few would accept it and thank him, but I'm afraid most would post insults and tell him to get the eff off of here and go back to Fort Worth. What they are saying on their board is nothing more than what would be said here. Personally, I'm glad that the game has become competitive again, as it strengthens and builds on a rivalry that I'm happy to see is going to continue no matter what school is in what conference. It needs to be. Now, before I'm lambasted, let's just say I was in school back during the old SWC days, and wish it had never broken up. There IS a lot to say about tradition, but ESPN and the greedy BCS ruined that forever. Long live the SWC and SMU. May we continue to improve and become a force in college football again. We are on the right track and doing it the right way, something to be very proud of.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryI endorse every word of that statement

Re: TCU - SMU rivalry
Ditto. And, for that matter, TCU would be smart to promote SMU. Both schools benefit and get national media (reference this past weekend.) Each school would love to distance themselves from the other, but let's do it on the football field or BB court vs. win/loss in BCS status. Maybe the Frogs, who earned their promotion to BCS AQ, see that there is not a Big 12 invitation coming and need the BE to be successful? I have never liked the idea of the remote location for TCU. Perhaps their success provides them the confidence to promote a win/win. If so, I am impressed. Pony Up
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryWell said, 3P. We have every right to savor this win but there is no need to demean TCU in the process. We all know that they have done an exceptional job to build that program and that we are doing all we can to get to where they are (and hopefully beyond).
We should all hope that this becomes a great rivalry again, both for our schools and the DFW area. Win with class, lose with class.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryI understand the post, but I haven't seen anything over the top said against TCU. Maybe I just have selective reading abilities.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryHave not seen any posts from ReedFrawg after the game, but he is a good toadie.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryThis is nice and everything but as this rivalry gets more intense, it will get more nasty. Bottom line.
To think otherwise is foolish. Usually, the team that scores the most points wins the game - John Madden
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryWhat a doucher - must be some old guy.
Just kidding It's 10.50pm And TCU still sucks What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryAs long as it doesn't get personal, anything we say about Patterson is fair game.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryWhat if the NTSU guys come on board?

A leaky Topsy turvey little boat...
TCU - SMU rivalry
I agree with the op on everything but I think Patterson should be fair game. He is a good coach, hell a great coach but he is an a-hole. It's like your friend that's an a-hole but it's ok because damn it he is your a-hole. But he is not our a-hole he is someone else's so it's not ok. Dude is a jerk. I don't think we should be scorned for telling the truth.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalry
Patterson is just trying to fuel the rivarly, IMO. He probably knows who we play next and that we can just as easily make the same snide comment. He does not bother me. Larry Brown? We have Larry Brown? Cool!
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryThreePutt, I three putted yesterday way too often but congratulations on a good post. A lot of the opinions posted here seem over the top but I feel sure that the same could be said for the TCU forum. Amazing how matruity changes one's attitude. I have two close friends; one a former TCU great, in the Frog Hall of Fame, former SWC football coach and close to their program. The other a three year SMU letterman and prominent alumnus. Both are of the opinion that the game Saturday will lend more credibility to this ancient rivalry. The TCU ex told me of their weaknesses before the game and gave SMU a good chance to win and he is proud of the job JJ has done. The SMU letterman and I both give TCU and Patterson a lot of kudos for the job they have done.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryit's a heated rivalry, and expectation of unified civility....or even some civility...is unrealistic and silly
