Some paper in West Virginia: June Jones a wise investment

Postby PonyPride » Tue Oct 04, 2011 2:10 am

If you want to make money, you have to spend money. We have all heard that business philosophy. The same is also true in college athletics. Everyone scoffed in January of 2008, when SMU hired Jones and paid him over $2 million dollars a year. Well, they aren't laughing now. Jones is making the Mustangs relevant again. The Mustangs beat TCU on Saturday and are now being mentioned in possible BCS conference expansion talk. They may even be on a short list for the Big East. June Jones is proving to be a wise investment.

Not a paper, but a radio guy.

Frank Giardina, one of the leading sports voices in West Virginia, has joined the broadcast team of West Virginia Radio Corporation.
Giardina will serve as Sports Director of WVRC Charleston where he will be the lead host on Charleston’s ESPN Radio show The Drive, heard weekdays from 4-6pm on 104.5 FM and 1490 AM, and lead host on WCHS’s Sports Page of the Air from 7-8pm.

Giardina will also be a regular contributor to the Metronews Radio Network, writing a daily column for the website, wvmetronews.com., and appearing regularly on other Metronews programs.

“I have a great passion and love for our state, our sports fans and the athletic programs in our state,” Giardina said. “I look forward to being in a position to have an impact on our entire state through my involvement with West Virginia Radio Corporation.”

Giardina brings to the new positions more than 30 years experience in broadcasting and college athletics administration. He most recently served as Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs at Marshall University.
