Re: TCU - SMU rivalryI work with TCU people, have extended family that are TCU people, and I have friends that are TCU people. We have all spoken since the game, mainly so I can collect my money, but they are even more excited about next year. They actually understand what this rivalry is all about. Its the wal-mart fans that see TCU as the end-all-be-all of college football. Anyone sitting in Section S might have seen the TCU fan that looked like BamBam Biggalow waving a chair and growling at the SMU crowd. He very well could have been an alum, but I doubt it. And I'm sure that as SMU continues to rise we will(hopefully) take on some of these super spirted fans. I'm all for it. I just hope that they realize that win they show up to games and are wearing the RED and BLUE that they are representing SMU and do it with class. That's what this rivalry is about. Two schools that are almost a carbon copy of eachother fighting to stay on top. One day it would be nice to have this game played at Jerry world on a national stage. Maybe even GameDay sans Corso.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryTrash ralk has become the fad in the last 10 years for the younger group. Not a rivalry when one team wins all the time. TCU has raised its national presence the old fashioned way and is at a point that their fans think they should win every game, even when they have lost some quality players/injuries and are in a "reloading" stage. SMU at 8-3 would please their fans while TCU at 8-3 will have their fans complaining instead of counting their blessings for a top program.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalry
+1. So true for the young set. Those of us from the 80's remember the lean years, and understand the ups and downs of college football. You get some of this entitlement BS when you don't lose a regular season game in the last 2 years. I like how we look for as young as we are, and I will be happy with an 8 win season, the future is still bright. I think you guys have a great shot at a 10 win season this year, and I hope you do it. It will help heat up the rivalry a bit more. And I can enjoy it since I live close to SMU. Win- win.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryThe truth is...TCU showed up our administration and got the attention of our major donors. Without their successes we would be considering downgrading football and every other sport.
Don't kid yourself, the commitment they made, got us started. Their successes showed us we could get it done with or without a BCS conference. Their admissions policies and academic treatment of athletes, was the force we needed to get our administration to finally see it our way, instead of Pye's way. This rivalry has been good and will continue to make both programs better. I am so happy, we have finally begun to hold up our end of the competition!
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryMexmustang-great post and on target!
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryPatterson is an easy target and brings it on himself. I have no clue what kind of person he is, nor do I care. His public persona is one of a classless jerk. And I don't care how successful he is, he's still a jerk. I'm just glad he's their jerk.
Pony Up!
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryI'm an 09 grad. I like to talk a bit of smack with my friends, but at the end of the day its just a bit of fun.
I know people from UT that I can't stand...they complain about everything even when they win by 50points against Austin high school. An old high-school friend even implied that his UT statics course was somehow infinitely more challenging than mine (which is why he was retaking it in the summer)..... that kind of attitude, combined with drunken rudeness, is what I assume everyone here despises. That and Gary Patterson's rediculous temper tantrum. Edit... phone typos Last edited by whitwiki on Tue Oct 04, 2011 6:35 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryIf I were from tc-who I would be embarrassed to have somebody like that representing my school. He is a class A jerk and that reflects on the school as well. Glad we have JJ.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: TCU - SMU rivalryI was at SMU when we were in the old SWC and recall all members hated one another just as much as the current SMU/TCU rivalry.
