Another conference considering SMU?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Another conference considering SMU?There is a LOT that SMU can sell to the SEC that should make them a vialble candidate for the conference. While A$M gives the SEC a good foothold in Houston but not necessarily as good in Dallas. Fact: Dallas is projected to be the fastest growing city in the country for the next 10 years. Dallas also has both the DFW Airport, and Love Field, which makes it easy for the fans of the SEC (or any other interested confernces fans) to come to games. SMU is also expanding. Don't expect the SMU population to remain constant with all the new buildings on campus. As new buildings go up, the size of the graduate and uncergraduate population should also expand. Plus the Dallas area might be the hottest of the hot beds for recruiting nationwide. I am sure that the schools of the SEC would like the opportunity to expand their potential for interested recruits to this area. Yes they get some recruits now. But the ability for the kids to play in front of the home town fans at least once every couple of years will enhance the ability to nab recruits from this area.
One other thing that I frimly believe. The Dallas Cowboys have moved to Arlington. Attending a game costs a small fortune. If SMU can improve its marketing, I am a firm believer that they can attract fans to fill up an enlarged stadium especially since attending an SMU game is more convenient and much more reasonably priced for a family of 4. Also for instance, a recent post indicating that students from other colleges in the area without a Divisison I program might be interested in adopting the Ponies is a very interesting idea that should be exploited. Likewise, theire schools might benefit from students at SMU who might like to root for programs that they have, such as baseball. In sum, SMU has a LOT to offer another conference and should be a serious contender for expansion if the school presents itself correctly to conferences that are interested in expanding to markets that will grow for years to come!
Re: Another conference considering SMU?I'm going to start not reading pony fans for a couple hours more often...that way big news/rumors will pop up more and i can get more excited about stuff

There's a former razorback who'd probably put in a very strong word for us if it meant getting his team in that building every other year...

Re: Another conference considering SMU?Isn't that Razorback's team going to be there every year now? Or was Hawgs/Aggies a one-time deal?

Re: Another conference considering SMU?This thread was quite possibly the worst thing to come up when I was studying for a midterm tonight haha.
Too far out there to be possible, but a neat possibility. We're just not good enough, sadly. Plus with Mizzou's Chancellor being authorized to evaluate options (read - go to the SEC) I doubt they're looking for a 15th member. I grew up a Vandy fan, however, so this would be a dream come true for me EDIT - I've included a link to an interview with Vandy's AD-equivalent and some of his statements could be interpreted as potentially positive for us. http://blogs.tennessean.com/vanderbilt/2011/10/04/complete-qa-with-vanderbilt-vice-chancellor-david-williams/
Re: Another conference considering SMU?This would be amazing if true.

just woke up../had heart attack. "smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: Another conference considering SMU?Could June Jones have some SEC country connections from back in his Atlanta Falcons days? The Turner-Ole Miss connection is obvious. I wonder what else we have working for us. Jerry Jones would probably love to have SEC/pig people games happening all the time in town.
