Re: Another conference considering SMU?
SMU could be leaking this in order to put pressure on the Big 12 to possibly invite us. SEC in DFW would be horrible for Big12/UT. Desperate play perhaps but we are really trying.

Now that's an interesting angle.

Let's say we go and are a doormat and can't improve. If we get tired of being a doormat, we're still in 100x better position to go to another BCS conference at that point. Plus, years of massive BCS TV contract.

Bingo. That is exactly what I was thinking. We can see the writing on the wall that Mizzou leaves for SEC, and Big 12 adds TCU, Louisville, WVU, and Cincy to get to 12. Our Big East invite isn't what it once was. So we are trying to push Big 12 to go regional with TCU, SMU, UH.
One more question- If Big 12 can get BYU, perhaps that is enough??

I think the Big X (+II) would be a great conference for us. Unlike the SEC, the Big X (+II) is constantly overrated. We have a chance. And not only could I bash OSU more, but could start in on Michigan and Penn State. We could avoid being a doormat (Indiana, Purdue, NU, Minn. presents us with plenty of opportunity to be middle of the pack ) and get the General/Minority Leader in a frenzy once a year.
Of course we would all have to agree with the Genereal/Minority Leasder that the Big X (+II+I) would be the greatest AQ conference ever. But that is the only downside.

1. No comment on SMU to SEC. I'll believe that when I see it.
2. If Mizzou ends up in the SEC, it will be in spite of themselves. They appear to have the most incompetent athletics administration in the country. Watching Mizzou bumble around for the last 2 years (Big-10?, Big-12?, SEC?) has been painful. They may back into a sweet deal just because of where they are located and the fact that there aren't better options. But it won't be because they've done anything to deserve it. Plus, once Mizzou stops playing in Texas (except against A&M every other year) and their Texas recruiting pipeline dries up, they will be about as irrelevant as a major state school can be. Hell, they've only been marginally relevant in the Big-12. How does Mizzou think its going to do in the SEC without its Texas pipeline?

Why would we be a doormat? As a member of the SEC, we can bring back the old slush fund and get away with it.

nahh, we'd improve. look at the talent we're getting now. then IMAGINE for a second if Klemm were going to California and telling these kids they'd be playing in the SEC! are you joking? we'd have to only recruit QB's who were over 6'5" b/c anyone smaller couldn't see over our O-Line.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Another conference considering SMU?
Another thread I saw which I also don't believe says that the Big Ten has awakened from its slumber and is making a play for Mizzou and Rutgers. This may be Mizzou trying to leverage the SEC and the Big XII. Now if Northwestern gets the Big Ten to decide to expand to Dallas to get the Big Ten network onto DFW cable and invite another private school who does not have the same color scheme as Northwestern, then I know the Mayans were correct. The end of the world is approaching.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Another conference considering SMU?
I don't know how much the timing of all this sudden recognition is a coincidence or not, but it sure seems like we need to keep winning.

Sadly, yes, Baylor IS in a better position to switch/stay BCS than it would be had it not joined the Big 12. Without being in the Big 12 for all these years Baylor would simply be Rice-in-Waco. That they squandered the chance by not trying their problem.
You play up or down to your competition/conference.

Those merger talks between C-USA & the mountain goats may also have played into this alignment stuff, too? Strike when the irons are hot!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
