Hawaii ESPN: June Jones to Decline Liberty Bowl if Champs

Postby Stallion » Wed Oct 05, 2011 7:36 pm

he also said Liberty Bowl doesn't have to take Champion anymore which I have pointed out. What he doesn't say is that the Liberty Bowl and the Ticket City Bowl get to decide to decline -not June Jones

Big supporter of JJ, but this really sucks for SMU fans on a number of levels.

First of all, obviously it's a slap in the face in terms of travel expenses. Secondly, I (and I assume many others) would like to see how SMU fares against the SEC's #6 or #7 team

he's already said this once - I think the school and fans need to rise up this time and say no to what June wants if we get to that point

While I would much prefer to go to a bowl game on the mainland and play someone other than Hawaii, if we get into a BCS conference, in large part because of what JJ has done with the football team, I will be ok with giving JJ one last trip to the Hawaii Bowl before we move on to greener pastures.

I can agree with that. Let's win CUSA first.

I used to be anti Hawaii, but I think the players want to go and deserve to pick. I also think it helped players become better recruiters and ambassadors for the program.

Plus neither the big east nor sec have connections there so we won't be going back anyway...

I think someone needs to sit JJ down & have a discussion with him on etiquette. It's not a good time to burn bridges with these other bowls. It's time for JJ to cut the umbilical cord to Hawaii & accept his position in Texas.

Besides, it was embarrassing what the crowd looked like when we beat Nevada. That was darn small! We went to the Hawaii Bowl once, now it's time to move onward & upward to higher profile bowls when we get these opportunities.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Nevada had like 10 people there - that bowl doesn't do well no matter who is playing. Christmas Eve is great for TV, not for people in stands.

I agree, there is no reason to talk about bowls right now or say you aren't going to one bowl vs another until the time comes.

Total BS...

Sure the Liberty Bowl does not have to take the C-USA champ.....but they always have...probably a couple of times when they did not want to....

If we were blessed enough to actually win conference USA, we need to go where they tell us...not some place because June wants to hang out with his island bros...

Orsini...reel him in....Yes, he has been good for this program and has taken us places we have not been in a while...BUT..we pay him two million a year and he is an employee of this university. He doesn't run the show.

Whoever cuts his checks needs to stop this bulsh right now....Geesh!
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

Really can't believe he's doing this again.
I don't think he wants to play the SEC. Georgia sorta pulled the curtain back on Oz.

Looking more and more like a Pied Piper situation.
He figures what are we gonna do?

Now that is funny!

What its worth, I think June was just playin to the crowd when he made those statements....

Hell, if you want to buck tradition and not go to the liberty bowl, lets play a Big 10 on new years day in the cotton bowl...now that would be fun.

Getting worked up over nothing, IF, and its a small if, SMU wins Conference USA, I gaurantee we are not playing in Hawaii. June was just shooting from the hip to an interviewer that wanted to hear that.
