Also, that BE would be WIDE open next 2-3 years. JJ could potentially win the conference and have us in a BCS bowl. Unless, of course, he'd rather play in the Hawaii Bowl again (I kid, I kid)

Uconn had more fans at BCS bowl than we would.

Big 12 is courting Notre Dame's non-football sports. Seems to me Big 12 is looking to kill the Big East. Why else would these talks be happening unless ND was very worried about it.
Re: Not so bold prediction: BE will stay together
The Pope won't let ND leave the BE for all sports unless there is a HUGE check involved. Remember, if ND leaves that hurts Georgetown, Marquette, DePaul, St. Johns, Seton Hall, and Providence. I'm still surprised he let BC leave the BE. Of course, adding a bunch of Methodists might be all he needs to pull the trigger.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Re: Not so bold prediction: BE will stay together
We would take the BE bid in a second, even if only 2 yrs - if only for the money. An extra 9-10 million a year.
I think these conferences are angling for 14 each - only one there is ACC. So the standing 5 will be: Pac/Big 12/Big ten/SEC/ACC
we need to work our way in there somewhere. BE is the stepping stone. Join and then immediately start lobbying Big 12 and SEC.

RT @CecilHurt: The Big East is now roughly in the same place that The Brady Bunch was when they added Cousin Oliver.

I believe I read somewhere that the Big East revenue for us would be more like 4 to 5 million per year but that would be a lot better than what we are getting now. I would take it.

The thing is, they're not really, provided they can hang onto what they have left. Louisville, Cincy, WVU, and UConn have, I think, 5 BCS appearances since 2005. I think that would be enough the possibly retain AQ status while bringing aboard some new members. I could be wrong though.

All of the teams that have been winning the Big East are still there.

Re: Not so bold prediction: BE will stay together
As I have said in the last post, unless there is certainty that BE will not lose AQ, I wouldnt risk it. Look at TCU, they sprung right to Big 12 even with a 5 million penalty. They have been in the loop and know that there are issues. The thing is, if we get an invite, we are only doing it for AQ status, nothing else. There isnt any old rivalries or any reason Ford stadium will be packed, but if in some way we do well and go to BCS bowl game then maybe Big 12 invites us later on. The only way we can ever get the stadium full enough to consider expansion of the stadium is being in the Big 12 (SWC). SMU biggest problem: Fans. We need to actuallly look like the student body cares enough about our future to go to these games, not just the every other year TCU game. Sad part is, since the stadium never sells (excluding TCU game) we give away tickets for free at game time and we still cant add people....
