1. Wake (Chris Paul, Justin Gray and Eric Williams) 2. Kansas 3. G Tech 4. UNC 5. Syracuse
Wow. We could have played the preseason #1 team at Moody. Talk about butts in seats. And can you imagine if we had actually pulled off the upset?!?! (Think Tech X 10)
But oh well. I'm sure Montana St. is very exciting. And our Bracket Buster game against someone like Murray St... all I can say is THAT is what will get us into the tournament.
well, we play the #8 team in that same poll at Moody on November 29. Don't ya think a win over Ok State, a Final Four team from last year, would be just about as good as beating Wake? Everybody's preseason schedule has soft spots, but ours is decent with Ok State, Texas Tech, TCU and Baylor.
I really like the game with Ok. St. too, but I was excited about this year with Wake, Ok. St., and Tech all on the schedule. We don't often get to see top 10 teams play here. And nationally, Wake is still a bigger name. I just don't think dropping teams because we don't want a loss is the way to go, especially when we get them at home. I'll bet a hard played, 8 point loss to a team like Wake would generate more excitement for the fan base than a 40 point win over UT-Tyler.
Re:
We had a home/away with Wake. Last year was at home. We have no idea why that was not continued.
We had a top 10 Wake in Moody last year and still nobody showed up. This is not a basketball town. Heck, it's not a football town. Sometimes it's not even a winner's town. It's a "where's the scene" town. Unfortunately, the average "Dallas fan" -- a pejorative in my dictionary -- doesn't show up for anything that doesn't have a jumbotron that they can appear on looking like a hooker or a hooker's date. They also don't have a radar for college sports unless the other team is from within the Texas border or maybe across the Red River. You could bring in frickin' Duke or UConn and the Dallas fan would still go to some meaningless early season Mavs game instead.

A close, 12-point loss to Wake at Moody last year sure didn't do much to create excitement, did it?? The schedule is fine the way it is....and as many have pointed out, the UT-Tyler game was scheduled because Hop will be out that game.

Re:
Good post! That's just one more reason to update Moody with a jumbotron. I hope to look like a date--how 'bout you?
Re:
Then you were looking in the wrong section. ...must have been my "Wooden bleacher disguise" that threw you off.
Sorry I missed you Stealth. Like you, I sure enjoyed seeing a good ACC team in Moody, especially given we played them so tought for 3/4 of the game. Too bad most of the local population, unlike you and I, had no clue.
Oh, and the other Dallas area residents must have been wearing a similar disguise. ![]()
If you were there then why would you say a closely played game against Wake would generate excitement? Obviously, it didn’t.
As I remember, it was very close game. We pulled to within one point in the last two minutes and I think we had a shot to take the lead. Bottom line, we need to win games in football and basketball. I don’t care who were playing.
Ok, I apologize for all my ranting. Our schedule isn't so bad. I'm sorry for taking out all of my frustration on this one topic. I honestly think coach Tubbs will do a great job and I look forward more and more to this basketball season every Saturday. I'll try to keep a leash on myself for a while...
...after one more: I think the loss to Appalachian State did more to kill the energy in our season then the good game against Wake.
