SMU's Orsini wishes TCU well; says SMU's BCS options "are alModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: SMU's Orsini wishes TCU well; says SMU's BCS options "arSS- let's correct a few things. First, ED was responsible for recruiting JJ and the Cof C was instrumental in getting him to SMU- SO had little to do with that.
Second- Not sure I understand your comments about not giving credit for the successes in the sports I mentioned. Please explain. What successes? And lastly, top 25. Please show me which polls we were listed as top 25 in- AP, UP, Coaches poll. I look at most of them and although we have gotten a vote or two we are not one of the top 25 teams. In addition, yes non-revenue sports are less improtant than fball but still very germain to the overall success of the university. GO PONIES!!!

wow, these are pretty sad comments... even if they are just to make a point. "show me de'm quicks - ER"
Re: SMU's Orsini wishes TCU well; says SMU's BCS options "ar
Orsini created the Circle of Champions. Their successes are his own. Yes, Eric Dickerson spoke with June Jones, but that was far from the entirety of his recruitment. Had Orsini not worked to change the harmful-policies left in place by Copeland, Jones would have never come.
June Jones.
First, if you do not believe Orsini was involved choosing June Jones, why do you blame him for Jones' not yet reaching the Top 25? Again, you assign him the role of sin-eater. I said that SMU had received votes, not that it had yet achieved its ultimate goal. Contrary to your belief, SMU's turnaround has occurred at lightning speed. Two bowl games in three years and you are still dissatisfied with the pace at which June Jones has succeeded. Either you are a troll or exist outside reality.
Non-revenue sports exist. That is their contribution. Most of these sports would not even be played if not for NCAA rules. Far East Conference

Re: SMU's Orsini wishes TCU well; says SMU's BCS options "arWho said that I blame JJ for not yet being top 25? My comment was that SO said 'top 25 in everyting we do'. Now fball is just one of the things that 'we do' .
I have always been under the impressio that Turner was far more responsible for the CofC than SO. If I am wrong I stand corrected. However, I believe that G Ford was well involved with SMU and our programs long before SO arrived. I am neither a troll nor do I have unrealistic expectations. I am obviously very senior to you and have had the priviledge to witness some of SMUs past successes and have every right to expect the current regime to exceed those past successes. Sorry if your expectations are much lower. GO PONIES!!!
Re: SMU's Orsini wishes TCU well; says SMU's BCS options "ar
Your impression is incorrect. Orsini created the Circle of Champions. You should actually be pleased that you are wrong on this matter. If Turner had been the driving force behind its creation, it would raise the issue of why he took over a decade to do so.
Having a prominent booster is nothing to celebrate on its own. Before Orsini, none of Ford's interest in SMU athletics translated to winning. Why would you even say such a thing, as if it had any value on its own?
My age is entirely unknown to you. Pretending that you know it in order to talk down to me is a clear attempt to argue from authority, which hardly qualifies as a real argument. Far East Conference
Re: SMU's Orsini wishes TCU well; says SMU's BCS options "arredpony is bang on and I can only assume that SO has a loyal cousin in SS.
![]() Also, very classless of SS to write such things about Copeland. He may not have been your cup of tea SS, but he was probably a decent person - as I am sure that SO is. Also, look around at the athletic facilities on our campus. Copeland spearheaded Ford, Crum, Soccer and tons of other on-campus facility improvements. ![]() ![]() ![]() And everyone knows it was not Orsini who did the heavy lifting on the fundraising for JJ (GRF and CoC) or the Moody renovations (Turner and Cheves). ![]() ![]() But Orsini did hire Doh -- and thumped his chest pretty loudly for a while about it. I think redpony pretty well described that mess. ![]() ![]() Orsini doesn't miss an opportunity to thump his chest about our #1 ranking in the C-USA Directors Cup (All Sports Trophy), so your argument about their irrelevance - at least from his perspective - is flawed. ![]() ![]() ![]() But he has to focus on that because he can't refer to marketing (can't afford posters and schedule cards because department accounting is soooo complicated and we are poor - ask Dutch and 2ndandlong) ![]() ![]() ![]() SO is not a "Top 25 AD" - let's go get one. For the money we pay Orsini, I guarantee we can hire someone decent. And, it was Orsini who leaked his own name to the Tennessee job - but did not receive so much as call back or an interview from the executive recruiter - Parker Search. They look for ADs who can generate revenue (not important to SO) - not just hit up donors with hat in hand ![]()

No intent to talk down to you. I was attending SMU football games in 1950. If you pre-date that time I apologize. If not then I am obviously a senior to you. That is not talking down. I was fortunate to watch many successful SMU teams prior to and during the pony express days. As a formally agressive business person I expect performance to be far above the norm. That is how one is successful. GO PONIES!!!
SMU's Orsini wishes TCU well; says SMU's BCS options "are alNot going to get sucked in to this other than to say that leveraging alumni connections is part of the AD's role. Orsini used Dickerson to get a coach. Previous AD did not. Orsini gets credit.

Re: SMU's Orsini wishes TCU well; says SMU's BCS options "arCouch'em- not sure which came first the chicken or the egg. My understanding was the ED had contacted JJ prior to any conversations with SO specifically about JJ. In that case it was not SO who was responsible for getting JJ here.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: SMU's Orsini wishes TCU well; says SMU's BCS options "arI'm sorry, but who the [Gary Patterson] cares about any of that?
Living in the past is what has killed SMU for the last 20+ years. Let's look ahead, not back.
Re: SMU's Orsini wishes TCU well; says SMU's BCS options "arAgree.
When will I start feeling stimulated??
Re: SMU's Orsini wishes TCU well; says SMU's BCS options "arI truely believe that our football team will be ranked in the top 25 by the end of this year. Now basketball is another story. I want to believe in coach Doh, but he makes it really, really hard. My wife has accused me of being a blind optimist... but I believe that if we take care of business on the field (court) that given our alumni support we will eventually be where all of us hope and want us to be. I also think that Orsini still has another rabbit in his hat as far as realignment is concerned... now 3-5 months from now, if I am wrong, fire his @$$
Fatterson is a tool! Pony Up!

Correct. ED delivered JJ essentially gift wrapped to SO. I see Steve's major contribution being the quick assembly of the Circle of Champions. Other than that, his hires have been fruitless and he and his cronies ran off the best soccer coach in America. So let's see how he pulls us through the current situation before we start erecting any statues. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller
