Re: Another proposal to get SMU in an AQ conferenceYeah there's a great chance that they remove the BE's bid and give it to the SEC
Another proposal to get SMU in an AQ conferenceIs there room for us if we drop down?

That belief is on cardiac arrest. GO PONIES!!!
Re: Another proposal to get SMU in an AQ conferenceBCS bids won't be reconfigured amongst conferences until 2014, right?
That gives us 3 seasons in an AQ conference. We could go 9-3 or 8-4, win the conference, and be in a BCS bowl. Wouldn't THAT be something?
Re: Another proposal to get SMU in an AQ conferenceECM- sorry missed your point. We are not in an AQ so how would that help us 3-4 years from now?
What AQ conference are we currently in where that would help us? GO PONIES!!!
Re: Another proposal to get SMU in an AQ conference
Sorry, I should have clarified. I was referring to possible BE membership, as people earlier in the thread we're talking about them losing their BCS status
Re: Another proposal to get SMU in an AQ conferenceFor that conference to work, you would have to dump Wyoming, Utah State and New Mexico for UCF, ECU and Marshall/Southern Miss/Memphis
Re: Another proposal to get SMU in an AQ conferenceTo me, the MWC/CUSA merger would be just as doomed as the 16-team WAC was in the 90's.
Another proposal to get SMU in an AQ conferenceA CUSA/MWC merger does little to excite me. Yes, we'd pick up some better competition, but CUSA is better aligned regionally, has some of our traditional (SWC) rivalries and is more stable. If we're going to move, it should be a forward move, not a lateral move that is worse for the fans and costs SMU more money in travel expenses.

Re: Another proposal to get SMU in an AQ conferenceI can't be the only person who thinks that, as things shake out, the schools that are left squeezed out of the big 5 conferences are the bottom feeders of the BE, the whole MWC and CUSA. With the way the realignment is shaping out, and knowing the BCS' lack of ability to change (think Gary Fatterson trying slimfast, nothing ever happens), there will be an open BCS AQ spot up for grabs for these teams IF someone can organize a strong conference.
Assuming the Big East schools left on the outside are Cincy, USF, Rutgers and WVU or Lousiville, and the 7 current members of the MWC and the 12 current CUSA teams, I really believe that there are about 1,000 ways to build a conference that could get the AQ spot, make geographic sense, and play a fun, fast paced brand of football. Think of Boise, SMU, Houston UCF and USF in the same conference, I think it could be a better product than ACC football. BBall would be brutal, but who really cares anymore right, we're living in the end times.
Re: Another proposal to get SMU in an AQ conferenceThe sad thing is the whole AQ /non-AQ thing is missing the point. Let's say tomorrow the commissioner for C-USA gets a call from the BCS and they say, "the winner of your conference gets an automatic bid". Ok so the conference gets a little cash influx. Big deal, the SEC,PAC12,BIG10,BIG12, and Notre Dame, get the REALLY BIG TV MONEY that CUSA with a bid would still never see. Plus, basically we would have a 1 in 12 shot every year to play one really cool game at the end of the year (maybe 1 in 24 if MWC/CUSA Merge). But until you get there you get to play: UTEP, UAB, TULSA etc........ I would rather be average in a cool conference and never see a bowl except once every ten years maybe. How much fun are TCU fans going to have? If I was there AD, I would cut out all 4 easy schedule games and fill them with national contenders. Imagine, there schedule could be: LSU, A&M, USC, Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State.....so unfair. After that type of schedule, you think they really care if they don't get to go play Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl? I really wish Turner hadn't have waited so long to get serious about this. He thought the path to University Prestige was becoming more like Tulane and toning down football. Now he's finally seen what a good football team can do for a university. A day late and a dollar short. The only thing SMU can hope for now is for lighting to strike. And when I say lighting I mean the impossible, SEC. And trust me, I don't know where that SEC IPAD thread came from, but I would say our chance of getting an SEC invite is up in the powerball numbers. And as far as the Big 12, I would have to believe one school in the Metroplex would be enough for them. If they choose another school from Texas my guess is it's Houstons turn. So depressed
