Johnny Utah wrote:The sad thing is the whole AQ /non-AQ thing is missing the point. Let's say tomorrow the commissioner for C-USA gets a call from the BCS and they say, "the winner of your conference gets an automatic bid". Ok so the conference gets a little cash influx. Big deal, the SEC,PAC12,BIG10,BIG12, and Notre Dame, get the REALLY BIG TV MONEY that CUSA with a bid would still never see. Plus, basically we would have a 1 in 12 shot every year to play one really cool game at the end of the year (maybe 1 in 24 if MWC/CUSA Merge). But until you get there you get to play: UTEP, UAB, TULSA etc........ I would rather be average in a cool conference and never see a bowl except once every ten years maybe. How much fun are TCU fans going to have? If I was there AD, I would cut out all 4 easy schedule games and fill them with national contenders. Imagine, there schedule could be: LSU, A&M, USC, Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State.....so unfair. After that type of schedule, you think they really care if they don't get to go play Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl? I really wish Turner hadn't have waited so long to get serious about this. He thought the path to University Prestige was becoming more like Tulane and toning down football. Now he's finally seen what a good football team can do for a university. A day late and a dollar short. The only thing SMU can hope for now is for lighting to strike. And when I say lighting I mean the impossible, SEC. And trust me, I don't know where that SEC IPAD thread came from, but I would say our chance of getting an SEC invite is up in the powerball numbers. And as far as the Big 12, I would have to believe one school in the Metroplex would be enough for them. If they choose another school from Texas my guess is it's Houstons turn. So depressed
I would imagine the Big East's TV contract $$$ is considerably higher than CUSA's. It's not the end of the world, though. The real dominoes will fall in 2014 when the current BCS contract expires and ND's contract with NBC is up. The Big Ten will court ND again, among others. Expect the Pac-12 to then take another good look at Texas, TT, OU, and OSU. The ACC might add two more [deleted] Big East teams it doesn't need just for the hell of it. VT will get another call from the SEC, who will be in the midst of renegotiating a MONSTER new TV deal with CBS/ESPN. That's all assuming the world doesn't end in 2012, of course.

What would you have done differently than Orsini? Care to add anything besides blind hate and proof that the caps lock feature on your computer works?

I believe that Otter, redpony, and Peruna Punch are all the same poster. They are all posting at the same time, with the same irrational theme of hating Orsini, specifically in regards to his desire to be "top 25.' Additionally, all three have made excuses for Copeland, while continuing to claim that Orsini is the reason SMU will not join an AQ conference. There is simply too great a similarity in the content of these posts, the language they use, the excuses they make, and the time at which they were posted. This is a serial troll.

I think the Big East will survive... our best shot now appears to be as a far-down-the-list option for the B12 if Missouri leaves. No idea if they just give up and stop at 9 teams before they get that far down the list...

Otter. You are the one who has it wrong. The fact is, SMU IS THE ONE THAT'S DEAD. Turner was doing what was fashionable in the academic world for too long. TCU recognized early on what football meant to a school. Credit goes to them. Following the TCU model now wont get us anywhere. That train left. SMU needs to make bold moves that go beyond what TCU did. Then in 10 years when the landscape changes again (maybe a playoff) we will be in a position to control our destiny.

Orisini is 100% NOT to blame...its the decade+ of apathy that preceded him.
Some people simply forget just how bad it was...
