that leave 1 to play for smu
explain what I am missing
2009 Played against Alabama
2010 Played for UT
2011 Medical Redshirt
2012 sit out per NCAA transfer rules
2013 Final year
5 years to play 4
Ex:
Tate Forcier
2009 Mich
2010 screwed by Mich (Hell, the coach played the true freshman over him, then played him in a few plays - should have let him RS)
2011 Transfer to SJSU / RS
2012 Eligible
2013 Eligible
You aren't missing anything. No one else understands not even the reporters, they just keep saying it cause one person said it. No one has any proof to back up that he would get a sixth year. I would love to be wrong on this but I don't think I am.
I agree. but, I am satisfied that the coaches and Gilbert knows. whether 1 or 2 years is a certainty, or if 2 years is a gamble. either way, if the coaches believe it is a worthwhile course to take, I'm okay.
btw, can someone reiterate if this is really official (I read the beginning of the thread and got too tired to wade through everything)? thanks.

Sorry if someone has already answered this, but does he have to sit out next year?

Yes.
if he goes to fbs, not if he goes to fcs.
um...does that mean he's coming to smu?

I feel your pain.

wow. identical, multiple threads. no wonder I'm so confused (well, in addition to inherent defects)!
Re: Burnt Orange on Gilbert Transfer
Given he got a release from UT, you know that means we ain't getting near the Big XII.

Same here, only makes our degrees look better.
Judging from the exams I just graded, I wouldn't believe the hype. Of course it could be that students confuse my awesomeness with an easy class. LOL.

Re: Garret Gilbert transferring to SMU
I found this quote in the Houston Chronicle regarding Case Kennum's Medical Hardship Wavier.
I don't think choosing to transfer schools and having to sit out a year is reasons outside of GIlbert's control. So no sixth year for Gilbert and only one year to play here.

NCAA rules specify that to grant a sixth year, an athlete has to have lost two seasons for reasons out of the control of him/her.
