A party like never beforeIf the Red Sox hold on, Boston will absolutely be out of control. I hope every cop in Boston is in riot gear and ready for a long night. It will be bedlam.
I'm not a big Red Sox guy, by any stretch, but I sure was last night -- that was beautiful.
Can't wait to see the fallout when Mount George erupts (I'm assuming he already has.) How many pinstriped heads will roll?
Now the question is, what truly bizarre and tragic event will cause the Red Sox to lose the World Series? My pick is that they miraculously get to a game seven, the National League team leads by a run, two outs runner on third. On the first pitch Ortiz pulls one a millimeter foul. Then the runner gets picked off third. Red Sox lose.
Oh man, EastStang, I hope you don't live in the Boston area.
![]() Question: do you think the Red Sox fans are more excited about knocking off NY than they would be if they win the World Series? I smell a major letdown coming, whether they face Houston or St. Louis. On the field they were acting like they'd just conquored a new country or something. Their comeback was impressive, to say the least, but the tears, etc., made me wonder if they spent all their energy on beating NY. What do you think: does GM Brian Cashman get the first pink slip for putting together a pitching staff with no lefty starter and only one lefty (I think) in the bullpen? I can't help but believe another lefty or two would have helped against Ortiz, Damon and Bellhorn.
Especially as the series wore on. If leftys get a steady diet of right handed pitching, after a while, they will come through. Yeah, Cashman surely has a big "X" on him. Torre might get the axe as well, although, he is still one of best field managers in the game. I'd love to see him end up as the manager of the "Expos" or whatever they'd be called.
Re:
I'd be really surprised if Torre gets fired, although what George will do in his current rage is anybody's guess. But you bring up an interesting idea: can you imagine Peter Angelos's heartburn if Torre showed up 30 miles away from Baltimore? Not the same division, I realize, so the rivalry wouldn't be the same, but Angelos has got to have nightmares about Torre-managed teams. (Then again, it might be good for Lee Mazilli to have a friend who can actually manage a game nearby....)
