Arm chair coachesSince we have an off week with not much else to talk about but criticizing coaching, whether constructive or not. Bennett in the post game interview says he's not getting the play he wants from the defense with the present configuration, mainly due to injuries. He said he is going to re-look and put the 11 best players on the field, he is giving the impression it's time for position changes etc, and with the by-week maybe he can coach up some players. My question is for the board is who are the 11 you would put on the field in Fresno?
I believe that our problem is not stopping the run on the inside, but stopping the run on the corner. The combo of Adami, Rogers, and McCray on the off tackle or sweep isn't working.
I would sub in someone (Avery Cleveland?) in at middle LB, and move Rico Harris outside to have at least a little bigger presence out there. Or just move Avery outside. On the D-line, I think that Williams is a little better against the run than Rogers is. I would like to see him in at DE and Rogers in under pass rushing conditions. Finally, our corners can tackle pretty well. I would like to see us run some corner blitzes in order to protect against sweeps to the long part of the field. Blitz the corner and then rotate the rest of the secondary over in a zone blitz package. I think we need to zone blitz more often in general.
