How good is So Miss?

Post by couch 'em »

Brutalized Navy completing over 90% of passes, but list to Marshall. UCF barely beat Marshall. What does it all mean?

Looks like they are finally playing like a lot of people thought they would at the beginning of the year. Slow to start, 3 INTs in the Marshal game. QB rating has steadily risen over the last 6 games.

For such a blowout, the stats were remarkably close

function of facing more vulnerable defenses?
somebody said that navy had an invisible secondary. easy to look good if they're not defending.

Navy didn't finish a couple of drives. Stopped on the half yard line one drive, field goal blocked (and returned for TD) on another.

So Miss is going to be very tough to beat at their place.

Would have to be on our A game for sure.

Since it's hard to get to, not sure many are staying in Hattiesburg unless they live around there. Staying in Biloxi/Gulfport.

Plus their stud FB Alexander Tiech was suspended for this game which directly impacted their inability to score from the deep red zone. Game started very strange. Navy had about 150 yards Total Offense to Zero for Southern Miss after 11 minutes but trailed 7-0. In the remaining 49 minutes Southern Miss destroyed Navy's defense for 590 yards. Navy defense looks extremely slow and not very physical or athletic to me. Southern Miss' defense which was pretty highly ranked gave up 550 of their own but I don't know how that translates to SMU's passing offense. However, I will say that without the 17 point swing at the start(2 goal line stands + kick6) and the addition of Tiech the teams were really pretty even;y matched. I wouldn't conclude that Navy will be a push-over until we prove we can stop their offense.

Absolutely- one game at a time. But OMG our schedule for the next 4-6 weeks is a beatch.
If we win out through that we can play with any of the top 25.

GO PONIES!!!

I agree, I think our CUSA Schedule this year has to be the toughest league draw, (Houston-road /So. Miss-road Tulsa-road/UCF -maybe twice) i have to believe it is the toughest league slate?

True Teich was suspended but don't forget Southern Miss started their 4th string RB and he ran for 118 yds. Plus Lampley a slot receiver played RB and ran for 88 yds and 2 TD's. Was also missing LB Korey Williams and starting safety Kendrick Presley.

Gonna be a great game down at "THE ROCK" for sure though. Enjoy the trip over and try some BBQ over at Leatha's or some good Cajun style cooking over at the Crescent City Grill.

Oh yeah, STOMP A PUDDLE IN UCF'S BUTT AND WALK IT DRY!!!
