Kids have to find their niche. If anyone can turn this kid around, my money in on June Jones. Besides, if your OChad been Greg Davis the last couple of years you would be screwed up too. It might take a year to reprogram Gilbert no matter where he ends up

Thanks for coming on maizeand blue...I think we have excellent QB coaches and everyone needs a change of scenery sometimes in their life. He could excel here at SMU...who knows?...but I think he is worth the risk.

I watched the Texas OU thing (it wasn't a game). Was coach Brown calling for Gilbert? Where's Gilbert when you need him? (Of course he could have also used the SMU offensive line...and Banjo, etc.)

First off, I'm Not here to start a riot, second off Michigan has made plenty of mistakes in the rebuilding process. I guess in AA everybody had kind of forgotten that 8-4 was actually a winning season. But losing to ohio, get's you run out of town losing to Michigan State gets you run out of town in 3 years. I'm in the Navy and have been 10 years I know many a UT fan and every single one of them says the same thing about this Garrett Gilbert guy. SO I ask a question.

SMU has IMO one of the best X and O offensive coaches in the game. Maybe he can retrieve this guy. I know as a fan of a team that has WASTED many a 5 star recruit. Mack Brown is pretty similar to Lloyd Carr in that respect. He recruit's like an SOB and wins by plugging in 5 star guys again and again. Seems like there's very very few that can both recruit AND coach above the level of their competition. Rodriguez could coach some offense but he couldn't recruit. I had nothing to do with the Carr and Mallett situations and did not approve of it when it happened. Carr lacked imagination but he DID win a National title. and all was well till Tressel came to Columbus.

Forgive me for taking an interest in your team over the last couple years. Y'all are a pretty damn good feel good story if you ask me.Your expectations still resemble the expectations of fans of top 25 programs.. Maybe because after all these years I think you have one again couldn't find the UCF score.... but regardless your team is pretty good.

Anyways Go Tigers... LOL :D

No quite sure what you're apologizing for. Come back any time!

Pony up!!!

Well for not being from Texas, Robby Joe tells me that is excusable, somewhat (yeah he's a real guy from Texas and he works for me funny thing is if me and my boys were the subject in a war movie I know me and him would both die, because Tex and Sarge always die) for openly being a fan of a team that I don't think has ever played your team... and being on your board posing a question about a guy that in Austin looked like he was lost.

Go Blue and Go Mustangs..... We were like #3 on the list of teams nobody wants to see win. You made it but y'all got some catching up to do! Personally I want you guys to win.

Because it's Multiple Thread Week!

LMAO x 2... Sorry guys / gals I'm a sucker for a comeback story Ain't no better come back story than the Pony's Sad thing is all the young kids I know, don't even KNOW SMU is a come back story I guess the Death penalty really meant death..... unless ohio gets the death penalty (which I hope they don't) OR maybe when they started to come back Big Blue could suffocate them for a few more years.

I got a post for y'all in a day or 2 when I can write a little more clearly about a certain abandoned ball field in Detroit, Michigan. Where a certain Guy named Doak Walker put himself in the NFL hall of fame. And in edition to 4 NFL titles (2 with Doak), 4 world series were won. The stadium itself is gone however, the playing field remains and was left to ruins by the city... Neighbors had other ideas..... If you can't wait try googling the Navin Field Grounds crew....

Congrats Rangers on beating our Ace tonight.

maize'n'blue wrote:I know he went to your practice and was a 5 star dude coming into UT but seriously, other than in relief of McCoy in one game he has looked freaking terrible. The Run and Shoot is based on very quick decision making and a ton of check downs. GG has thrown like 10 more INTs than TDs. I know you guys see that deal up in Wisconsin and what happened at Auburn, but this dude is NOT your ticket back to the promised land. If you don't believe me, ask the UT fan you work with.

SMU don't need this guy what y'all need is about 5 more years to develop, beat some big name teams, like maybe my team in a bowl game . It SUCKS what happened to your team, I can NOT imagine if somebody woulda took Michigan Football behind the shed and shot it in the back of the head for something everybody was doing. Then the trigger puller sat back and watched Miami, Florida State, Alabama and ohio be spared over it, more than once in the case of Miami. Which IMO should be in front of the firing squad (Miami that is).

I understand that you guys see SMU football as a glorious thing and historically it truly is but unfortunately the penalties have not ended. Although JJ has them coming to a halt real soon. By the way why in the heck do you guys want to join the SEC and gat hammered every week before your program is TRULY ready? SMU is almost back to being SMU, the team I sometimes refer to as the Notre Dame of the south. I know there's a ludicrous amount of money involved but..... To me it seems like all you guys want is to be legit again. You're pretty much there guys couple more years and you will be, to everybody not just dudes like me.

are you kidding me? First of all, he is eligible for a medical redshirt this year, and he isn't eligible to play until 2013. Hypothetically that would mean J.J. this year, Padron's senior year in 2012, and then a much older and more developed Garrett Gilbert in a lower pressure scenario in 2013 and 2014. And it's not like we HAVE to start him. He would obviously be in competition with Conor Preston/Steve Kaiser/Eddie Printz, but that is what we want. Worst case scenario we waste a scholarship. Best case he's our Colt Brennan and elevates the program. Let's not forget this is the same guy who was considered the top high school qb alongside Matt Barkley

maizeand blue....you can adopt us, besides we have from Michigan, the great Line family playing here so that's your legitimate SMU entry! Zach now and Prescott Line next year and their little brother coming up in a few years.

maize n blue- sorry but I'm a big buckeye fan so don't have much sympathy for 'blue'. :) However, I just became slightly more of a 'blue' fan when I learned that Hoke - your new coach is the son of a friend that played end on our high school fball team.
Thanks for your interest in the Mustangs.

Laken Litman
Interesting Garrett Gilbert-SMU connection: Mustangs' DC Tom Mason coached at Boise State when Texas OC Bryan Harsin played there.
