Barry Switzer??- You have to be kidding. I have followed SMU sports for 40 years and I would stop completely with the hire of someone of Switzer's reputation as a cheater as our AD or Football Coach. It would let me know that SMU doesn't care how it gets done and I think we already know where that leads us.
Re Tubbs- No one has called Tubbs a failure. It appears that he must prove something on the court before the Dallas area b'ballers will give him anything but lip service. Stallion is correct. No DFW signees although we keep hearing that there is a secret one somewhere. Let's all hope he can have a very good year. He has a good team (relatively spaeaking) in that we have experience and two of our most highly rated recruits in quite sometime. If Tubbs can't win a tourney berth with this group, he will gain no traction in recruiting. Everyone would have demanded that Dement be fired if he hadn't won with this group. As far as I am concerned, the pressure to produce this year is still on.

How pathetic it is that you waste your time trolling this board with your stupid posts. If you truly were an alumni, you'd have a job or something to keep you (and your other names) occupied.

Couch 'em,
Why do you hate any idea that has the potential to improve SMU? Your pessimism is repugnant. Your pessimism and attitude proves that you do not care about SMU and in fact wish to see it fail. Why don't you hang out on the TCU board, where people like you belong.

Laura Bush Lover wrote:This idea probably won't win me any fans among some of the closed minded posters on this board, but I wanted to at least put it out there. For a university in our position, a big name AD hire could be as beneficial as a big name football hire. If people are so concerned with the ability of Barry Switzer to coach a football team, I'd like to propose him as an AD candidate. That he's a big name and has many connections to Dallas is well known. But he would be an amazing hire for AD because he's a proven leader, an administrator, has many connections around the country and would respark our athletic programs with the charge of his personality and sheer will. The thought of someone like Barry involved in the SMU family, at any level, warms this alumni's heart.

Couch 'em shouldn't be attacked.

Your message borders on ludicrious. Barry Switzer was exposed as a cheater and led a BCS state school with little or no understanding of the challenges faced by non-BCS, private schools.

At OU, he had all the advantages. There is no evidence, much less character, to suggest he could manage our problems, much less, fix them. Just what SMU needs. Remind the public of our troubled past by hiring him.

Warm your heart? In Damn Yankees, to win, you sell your soul.

Well, I'm gonna give Laura Bush Lover the benefit of the doubt and say that he's just joking around with us, and I want to thank him, saying the words SMU Athletic Director Barry Switzer made me laugh harder than I have all week. That being said, I guess I disagree with alot of people on here, because while Jim Copeland seems like a good guy, his performance at SMU in my opinion has lacked accomplishments and been far from impressive.
