CB Josh Robinson

Post by Stallion »

so what does a team with a Shut Down corner do when the other team is loaded at Inside Receiver but is more unproven at the Outside Receiver spots. Do they stick Josh Robinson on Darius Johnson anyway or do they leave him outside on say Wilkerson. Actually Thompson is potentially the most dangerous deep threat but hasn't consistently proven it yet. That was a great matchup between Aldrick and Josh last year-Aldrick did everything he could-not dishing him-but Josh made play after play.

sure feels good to have a few years of GOOD recruiting and have some talent all over the field rather than having 1 good receiver who they can go after.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Having Beasley and Johnson inside will be huge for this game. Add in a dose of Zach Line to keep them honest and it could be a great matchup.

I was thinking about this last night, and I surmised that they will try to match him to Darius whenever possible, and SMU will move DJ around as much as possible to avoid that.

I think starting with the end of last season, we are finally witnessing the coming out party for Darius. As good as ES was, and he was good, I've never seen a better set of hands on a player at this level than I've seen with DJ. If he continues to put it all together, I think he becomes better as a senior than ES was. (ES was a more complete WR earlier than DJ and he was great his whole career. DJ was a little slower to completely emerge.)

yeah I don't think there has been a receiver at SMU that has made as many acrobatic or highlite reel catches of difficult balls as Darius Johnson starting with his very first lay-out catch as a freshman. There have been a bunch that have done a lot more with the ball after catching it though. I'd like to see more of that determination to make big plays after the catch that we saw at TCU. He has the open field running ability.

they've gotta match him up against the most dangerous receiver, right? pick your poison...if he covers deep, you dink and dunk all day with Beasley. When they bring corners in you hit them deep with Wilk or DJ. Thompson and Johnson could be in for huge games as well. I think Line is good for his usual 100+ yards.

Neither CB or DJ will be 100% so that is a concern.

If they match up CB Robinson on slot WR DJ, how much do you want to bet the very first play will be a deep ball to Thompson at outside WR on a fly route?

Josh Robinson is probably our best cover corner since Asante Samuel. Where the d line was UCF's strength last year it is the secondary this year. Ishmael is one of the best Safeties in CUSA. I am looking forward to this game

I think Stallion has hit on the question the RnS is designed to force D Coordinater to ask: Do we have the secondary and LB crew to handle 4 WR's? It's going to depend on the reads JJ makes - Look for Robinson to be successful whoever he covers, but to make our money on the 2nd and 3rd options.

Furthermore, if the secondary is their strength now and their DL is weak, this might be the day for Zach Line. We average a little over 300 across our OL - they average somewhere in the 260's to 270's, big difference. If we can have ANY success throwing the ball Line will run wild all day!

Damnit we need a pass catching TE!! Buffalo went to four Super Bowls running a RnS with an outstanding TE who could block and catch!! Ugghh! That would give Line all day to run even when there are more than 5 men in the box!

Just don't hit him in the numbers, or he'll drop it. I think the east ones that hit him in stride must be beneath him, as he frequently drops them. But throw DJ a leaping, twisting, left-handed quacker behind him, and you get more highlight reel.

If not, I bet we see it a few times on third and one.
