And until you DO know that the guys who are on their way to the playing field can't play, try being positive and encouraging to those who are out there. These guys deserve our support and encouragement.
Well, I know one thing--we've one exactly ONE gme in TWO seasons. That's impossible to ignore. I will not bash individual players, but as a team they just plain suck.

Unlike some trolls, I have talked to players -- three of them today -- and to a man they told me that they want to continue to work like hell to get better because they feel for the perdicament the coaches are in.
C'mon man, everyone knows that Bennett is making the players look bad. At SMU, they are now at a lower pecking order than the soccer players or even the swimmers. There have been players going to the AD asking for a new coach, because think Bennett knows fewer X's and O's than their high school coach. From what I have heard, it is clear that the players think Burns will be the next coach of our SMU MUSTANGS!!
GO STANGS, BEAT THOSE WAC TEAMS!!!

Back it up. Don't go posting that the players want Bennett gone without giving who, what, when and where. Otherwise, your drivel is just that drivel. Go back to Ft. Worth and put on your purple PJ's Frog.

Slow down there Sir Trolls a Lot! I know you're frustrated about the team's record, but I think it's a little early to start talking about having Coach Burns take over. Show some support for the man we have in charge now! I'm sure he'll get us win number two this weekend in California! I'm no psycologist and I won't claim to be any great prognosticator, but I think that the esteemed Coach Bennett and OUR team will fare better with your support than without it.
Buck up my friend! I sleep well at night because I know the future's so bright we've all got to wear shades!!!!

Yes, the coaching needs to get better, but I have yet to see Coach Bennett miss a tackle or drop a pass, and I have yet to see him instruct one his players to do so. They need to coach better and play better. That's no secret. Sir Trolls A Lot wrote: .... At SMU, they are now at a lower pecking order than the soccer players or even the swimmers.
Please tell me you're kidding. You're worried about the players' place in the campus social hierarchy? They win, they'll be on top again. That's an absolute non-issue. GO STANGS, BEAT THOSE WAC TEAMS!!![/quote]
At least your last line shows your support. How convincing.

EastStang wrote:The players want a new coach, really?? Which players told you that? Where did you talk to these players? Or, are you just assuming that because they're losing badly of late, that they want a new coach? Don't go spewing that kind of muck without having specific facts to back it up. That kind of general statement is something a Frog would put on this board. Go back to the TCU board, Froggie.
I very seldom post here, but I read ponyfans.com off and on....and it honestly appears to me that EastStang and also PK - are stoolies for the coaching staff. Anytime Bennett is criticized you two come rushing to his defense. A logical person would not do this time and time again - given the three year history this man has had. Hmmmmmm. Wonder if you two have ever posted during a game?? Ya'll remind me of the spin doctors working for Bush and Kerry.

Other than being a member of the Mustang Club, I have no connections to the Athletic Department or any of the coaching staff. My post are based upon my own game observations and interpretations of what I see and my own commitment to SMU athletics and football in particular. I have my own thoughts about the team, many of which I choose not to share on this board. I just believe in being fair and taking into account all the factors that affect the team performance. I'm no more satisfied with where the team is now than anyone else, but I'm willing to give the coach a reasonable amount of time to get his recruits and schemes in place with a full roster of healthy players before I join in with the "Off with his head" routine. Next year is the year that I become critical about the performance if it is not vastly improved. For the remainder of this season, I am going to give the coaches and players my full support in hopes that they will finally be able to get it together.

It would be nice if you actually did it. Normally, you just spew out what you heard on the Ticket or read in the Park Cities People. The players deserve more than your criticism PK.

For a guy who purports to hate the media so much, you sure spend a lot of time listening to the ticket and perusing the papers. You should really try to avoid these things since they give you such heartburn. Read a good book. War and Peace ought to keep you busy for a while, and distract you from what the Ticket is saying about SMU, and most importantly, from the pitiful football which gives the Ticket their SMU fodder.

Are you really as dumb as your post make you look...or do you work at looking that dumb?

And since the Park Cities People doesn't cover SMU, I doubt that's where PK gets his information. You might be confused by his thoughts, because they represent those of an SMU fan.

Look Newbie, if you read most of the 1000 posts of my on this board over 4 years on this Board and the MM Board, you would know, (1) that I have repeatedly said that I am not convinced that Bennett is a decent coach, (2) I am just not convinced that he has been given a chance to succeed or fail. I don't want to dump him and start over with some clown who might be even worse. I am a Mustang Club member and have attended multiple games virutally every year despite living 1500 miles away from Dallas. I also attend any SMU team event that is within a reasonable radius. For example, I went to the SMU - Navy basketball game on New Year's Eve, and saw maybe 100 Mustang fans at the game. I've seen our soccer and swimming team when they've travelled east. I've been to numerous away football games as well. And when I attend a game I write about my views. I also have Direct TV game plan and watch SMU games that show up on that. So, yeah I do know what I'm talking about? What makes you such an expert?
