NYP: Big East to invite six

I don't think Nova gets to jump into the Big East football whenever they want. I think they have to get voted like a new member entirely.
Some people simply forget just how bad it was...

A&M's Loftin says he doesn't "think it's likely to see another team join SEC and move by July 2012."

It irks me to no end that Temple is infront of us. I know they are from that part of the country and have some history with the current members of the BE but come on what have they ever accomplished in football? Nothing except demonstrating they can't compete when they were in the BE. What do they offer the big east? I think Pennsylvania is pretty well tapped out with Pitt and Penn state, it doesn't have the highschool talent to support any more programs (not that it does a great job supporting those 2. Does the BE schools want to compete for left overs in Pennsylvania or go compete for recuites in the state that produces more D1 recruites than anywhere else? Sure philly is larger than DWF right now but how much longer will that last 5 years? 10?

Re: NYP: Big East to invite six
The only thing that bothers me about Temple is they have already been kicked out. Honestly, though I don't think it matters to us. We are ahead of UH on the pecking order in my opinion and still get in. But would rather have a close travel partner in UH.
Re: NYP: Big East to invite six
I don't know if we are ahead of UH in the pecking order, UH has more street cred when it comes to being good at FB, They also sell more tickets then us which is an embarassment considering that it is a commuter school. Presidents talk about academics bu that actually never maters when the final decisions are made

You are right they don't simply get to pick, but they were extended an offer in Sept 2010. Things have changed, but not enough to ensure they wouldn't be offered again if they get into a position to be able to join. Cost of a better stadium in the face of conference instability seemed to hold them up last time. If the Big East settles and locks in teams, joining could only be a few years away. More reason for them to fight against letting Temple join.

Re: NYP: Big East to invite six
SMU is more likely a candidate in Conferences where Academics matter. Big East, Pac-12 and ACC. While we are a fine fit for Big East and ACC, travel is a problem. That said, I can't believe that the Big East is stupid enough to take only one school in Texas. We need Houston and they need us or the Big East will remain on Page 4 in one of the two biggest papers in Texas, not to mention all the others. If the SEC were to take another team in Texas, it would probably be SMU. A&M is too close to Houston. This of course is a long shot, as are the ACC and Pac-12. Even if we don't make it in this round, I bet we do on the next expansion round. I just hope JJ stays until 2016.

I knowthe Big 10 is happy at 12 for right now but in a world where they expand to 14 or 16 you yould think they would want to consider adding a TX school, I don't see why they want to go with Rutgers or the like.

Only Texas school they would want is UT. Only schools comparable in fan size and academics with A&M happy in the SEC. If they could take two teams from Texas it would UT and A&M, but they have no reason to stretch out their conference like that. Rutgers is attractive in further helping them control the New York tv market.

Northwestern is in the Big 10, not a huge school

Plus I can assure you that Philly is NOT a college sports town (especially football). It is very rare that you ever hear anything on sportstalk radio about college football (this includes times where Penn St. is in town). I have been to a few Temple games at Lincoln Financial Field and you can basically hear the crickets chirping (except for the annoying owl screach they play over the loudspeaker). There's a BIG difference between the eastern part of PA and the western part in terms of college football.

UT and A&M would have no interest in playing in a lesser conference, with cold weather, ugly women, and bad football, just to cede power to a collection of schools living in the past.
Other then that - it would be a great idea.
