How many QB's in this next class?

Postby SWC2010 » Thu Oct 28, 2004 7:36 pm

How many? Probably 2 since we did not sign 1 last year. If not,we look up in '06 with 1 Sr QB & no experience backup.

Anybody know how many offers we have out on QB for class of 2005?

I would bet we sign one this year - too many other needs.

As far as I've heard, we've offered the QB at Denton Ryan (Willis), and I believe a QB in Houston and another in Oklahoma. And we also have a 2006 offer out there for Matt Stafford of Highland Park.

the ideal situation would be to sign a Division 1A transfer who would be ready to contribute in 2006 when our JCs leave.

Most likely to sign would be Shea Smith. Willis would be a good pick, but he is generating a lot of interest lately from schools he really likes and may be a tougher sign. Smith is good, but a little small.

Shea Smith is not a Division 1A prospect-he's about 5-10.

well I guess he'll fit right in since Odessa Permian has now lost 5 straight games with Smith at QB. Seriously, I can't believe he's being recruited as a QB-like his father he's most likely to play a variety of positions other than QB. Scott Smith-who grew up in Highland Park and coached at SMU for a year- was a Gary Hammond type at Baylor-I think he saw action at QB, DB and maybe even at WR or was it kick returner.

I'm assuming Chris Phillips returns to play 3 more years for SMU, but I agree it's important that Bennett finds at least one guy in this class who could become a I-A QB. Otherwise, the misery of the past 3-4 years will continue indefinitely. We have got to find someone who can lead this offense and put some points on the board. Oh, it wouldn't hurt our play at QB is we found a running game somewhere along the line, too.

To quote Bus, Big men...you don't go anywhere without them. Whether running or passing, we need a more mature o-line with more depth in the backup positions to make things happen. Same with the d-line. Bring in the big men.

And linebackers - bring in a bunch of big men, and a bunch of fast LBs.
