If the Big East adds 5 new teams ....

If the BE adds Air Force, Navy, Houston, SMU and Noise State, Big East football will be substantially better then it was before Syracuse and Pitt left. Syracuse and Pitt did nothing for the BE. Houston made the top 25 and SMU might be ranked and then Boise State. Notre Dame currently plays 2 BE teams a year and they'll play 4 if the Academies are added. ND could schedule 3 swing games against BE teams and the BE would be a pretty good football conference.
My school, St. John's, is a founding member of the Big East. And so was Syracuse. The way Syracuse secretly negotiated with the ACC and told the BE at the last minute they were leaving made me and many other BE fans angry. So I hope all the new teams come into the league and we ( you football schools and we basketball schools) form the best basketball conference in America and a top football conference. I want Syracuse and Pitt to look back and say we made a mistake leaving the BE.
And Pitt, last year the BE was negotiating a new TV contract for football. The Pitt president urged the other BE schools to hold out for a bigger TV contract for football and we passed on a 1.5 billion dollar TV contract. You wonder if the PITT president was thinking about going to the ACC ?

If this is finalized and BE keeps all of the remaining 6 FB schools, I totally agree with you. And, we look forward to playing you in NY and hosting you in Big D, where we are staring a major rennovation of Moody Coliseum.

Couple of things. First why did the original poster omit UCF? Did I miss somthing while asleep? And second, in my opinion, if the rumored BE realignment occurs, I believe the BE will be more stable (not saying better, just more stable) than the Big XII. If I were WVA and Louisville I would think long and hard about leaving right now.

and no offense to our probably new partners - but what does WV and Lousiville do for the Big 12 in the way of markets? doesnt really make sense for either in my view. The BE just got better - and the number of TV sets that care went WAAAY up, which equals some serious dough.

First, West Virginia already applied to the ACC and Big 12 and got rejected.

If 5 new teams are added, BE football will be better . New markets open in Texas for the BE and Houston and SMU are quality teams. Air Force and Navy will give the BE national exposure. ACC schools have only a slightly better TV contract then the BE ( NY Post Article ) and with the 5 new schools the BE will definatly get a bigger contract. Notre Dame could potentially play 7 games with Big East teams . BE basketball get s substantially larger TV contract then other conferences do.
So West Virginia and Louisville would be foolish to leave. You think they wanna deal with all the crap in the Big 12 with Texas ? Going forward, I think this new BE football alliance would be very stable. The only team I see leaving would be Boise State.

Yes UCF is on the list, according to this report, but don't plan on breaking out the champaign for a few more days. If this report turns out to be right, this would be a great conference for fball and bball and we should be thrilled to be a part of it.
