Marinatto's master plan, which was approved Friday by the league's presidents and chancellors, includes adding Boise State, Air Force, Houston, SMU, Central Florida and the Middies to create a strong 12-team Big East football conference that would include two new nationally ranked programs and two distinguished military academies and would incorporate four new major TV markets in Dallas, Houston and Orlando and Washington D.C.
Most of the pieces look like they are falling into place.
Despite ESPN reports that Boise State and Air Force would stay in the Mountain West, it appears both schools are ready to pull the trigger and make the move to the Big East, which has a better chance to be an AQ league and should wind up with a more lucrative TV contract and maintain its BCS status.
Navy sounds it may still be camera shy, waiting to make sure there are no more surprises in this league. But the Middies could be easily replaced with Temple as a football-only member if they opt to remain an independent and life could go on, provided the current six members on the football side, which signed off on an increased $10 million dollar exit fee Friday, don't get wandering eyes and looking for the first exit door.
A new Big East, which would be divided into two divisions with Rutgers, Connecticut, West Virginia, Temple and Central Florida, in the East and Houston, Boise State, SMU, Houston, Air Force, Louisville and Cincinnati in the West, would be stronger than the old Big East with Pitt, Syracuse and TCU in football and more attractive to TV when it re-negotiates its contract next fall.

Great news! I wasn't really taking stock in the ESPN report. Andy Katz is a basketball guy, not a football guy.

The perception I get from reading the BE boards is that that they believe that ESPN is putting out disinformation to hurt the BE. Reason - BE is negotiating with NBC/Universal and/or Fox for a better television deal.
Re: NY Daily News on New BE
It would be awesome to have SMU games regularly on NBC and alternately on NBC's Versus.

Why? I don't get VS, but I get all of the channels SMU is currently on.
Re: NY Daily News on New BE
I was referring to being on NBC. Versus is comparable to being on CBS college sports.

Well, maybe we shouldn't change then.

Based on the NY Daily News article, it looks like USF is to drop out of the BE, as they are not in the East Division of football. Schlock writing or dubious editing. Other than that interesting points.

Agree, not sure how he got on the conference beat. I have thought that too.
Re: NY Daily News on New BE
Our division looks badass! 5 of the 6 could end up ranked this year. Screw the Big East haters, thiswill be a legit BCS group.

There are 7 teams in our division with 2 teams from Houston.

Does that now mean Keenum gets 12 years of playing time?

I will give you 4 out of 6, but I do not see Air Force or Louisville getting ranked. Which of those two are you counting as having a chance to get ranked?
Regardless, I think it is a strong division. Will be fun hopefully.

like the positive spin that writer puts on things, no sarcastic barbs dripped in constantly. they sound optimistic about what the new league could be. Is Rutgers really the birthplace of college football?
