TEAM NOTES

Captains for today: #3 Darius Johnson (WR), #8 Taylor Thompson (DE), #23 Chris Banjo (FS), #70 Kelvin Beachum (OT), #93 Aaron Davis (DT)

SMU is receiving votes in both the USA Today Coaches’ and AP Polls, rating 34th in the Coaches’ Poll and 36th in the AP rankings.

Richard Crawford’s 92-yard punt return TD tied the SMU record for longest punt return (Val Joe Walker vs. Texas, 11-3-1951). It is also ties for second in C-USA history. It is the first punt return TD for SMU since Emmanuel Sanders 79-yard return for a TD vs. Stephen F. Austin 9-5-2009. His 141 punt return yards are 2nd in a game at SMU (Cody Cardwell, 169 at UTEP 11-16-2002)

The 72-yard TD pass from J.J. McDermott to Der’rikk Thompson (14:39 4th Qtr) was the longest for SMU since an 82-yard TD from Kyle Padron to Aldrick Robinson at Tulane Oct. 30, 2010. (McDermott hit Terrance Wilkerson on a 71-yard TD pass at TCU.)

SMU has scored at least 28 points in 5 straight games.

SMU is 12-3 in its last 15 home games, dating back to the start of the 2009 season.

SMU is 15-4 in its last 19 Conference USA games and 9-1 in its last nine C-USA home games.

SMU is off to a 5-1 start for the first time since going 5-1 to begin the 1986 season

SMU has won 5 straight games, its longest streak since winning 5 straight during the 1997 season (Oct. 11 at Utah – Nov. 15 at Tulsa)

SMU had 358 passing yards. UCF had allowed just 501 in its first 5 games.

SMU had 440 total yards. UCF had allowed just 888 in its first 5 games

SMU mascot Peruna VIII passed the reins to Peruna IX at halftime. The incoming and outgoing black miniature stallions were honored, along with current and former Peruna handlers and the Culwell family. The late W.E. Cullwell, owner of Culwell and Son, donated Peruna II in 1932, since then the Culwell family has donated each pony that has served as the Mustang mascot.

SMU RECORDS

Cole Beasley (WR) (Biletnikoff Award watch list)
- Had 10 receptions for 134 yards
- Had 10 or more receptions for the 3rd time this season; also 3rd time in his career which ties for 3rd at SMU
- Had his 2nd 100-yard receiving game of the season; it is the 5th of his career, which is 8th at SMU
- Has 210 career receptions, which is 3rd at SMU and tied for 12th in C-USA
- Has 2429 career receiving yards, which moves him to 4th at SMU and 12th in C-USA

Richard Crawford (DB)

- Had 2 rushing TDs and now has 13 on the season, which is 6th at SMU
- Now has 30 career rushing TDs, which is 4th at SMU
- Now has 180 career points, which is tied for 10th at SMU
- Now has 2348 career rushing yards, which is 9th at SMU

J.J. McDermott (QB)
- He had a career-high 358 passing yards to total 1064 in the last 3 games; that sets the SMU record for a 3-game total (was 1049 by Chuck Hixson in 1968, at Ohio St (417), N.C. State (323), TCU (309))
- Had his 3rd straight 300-yard passing game, which ties the SMU record
- Had 2 passing TDs; now has 10 on the season and 12 for his career
- Improved to 5-0 as a starter at SMU

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

Kenneth Acker (DB) - Had a career-high 8 tackles (all solo) and a pass breakup

Chris Banjo (FS) – had a team-high tying 8 tackles (4 solo)

Kelvin Beachum (OT) (watch lists for: Outland Trophy, Rotary Lombardi Award)
- Started his 45th consecutive game at SMU

- Had a sack, his first of the season; now has 2 for his career
- Had his first career forced fumble

- Was 5-5 on PATs; he is 25-27 on the season

New peruna has some spunk, no kids allowed near him yet and I thought he was going to buck turner during the pictures.

We can all thanks t Boone for those 2 do nothing horses and our big 12 invite.

Great win but darn lucky we didn't get any of the starters hurt the last of the game with a 3 td lead. Cheap shot on JJ, Beasley comes up limping, Line still in, OL goes down! What are they doing in the game?
