i know Rich Phillips has many hats at 1310, including calling the SMU games for their broadcast, so he may have some bias, but he just mentioned SMU possibly receiving an invite from the Big East as early as today.

Isn't the BE getting together tonight to vote on increasing exit fees, etc?

Re: Ticket Ticker
What if we have agreed to any exit fee they vote to impose? Can we go ahead and get our invite before the meeting?
Of course we should turn it down (gets us out of those increased exit fees for one) and wait for the SEC to beg us to join.

Re: Ticket Ticker
listen, they're talking about increasing exit fees from $5MM to $10MM. i know that's a big sum of money, but in the grand scheme of things, if an SEC, or even a BigTXII invite were to come, we would pony up and pay the extra $5MM. we'd just take it out of the marketing budget.

The marketing budget would only cover the cost of the actual paper check we'd have to write, not the fee itself.
Re: Ticket Ticker
I thought the theory was that if BS, AF, SMU and HOU agreed to join, the Big E would vote on raising the fees. Can we therefore assume that all 4 schools have agreed to join?

That's the way I read it.
Funny part is $10 mil isn't going to keep this conference together. If any school got an invite from another conference they jump and don't blink at the money.

Re: Ticket Ticker
it's a done deal. there are moving parts that have to happen. everyone wants the fees increased before joining to ensure that no additional teams leave, but existing want commitments from the new schools before voting on it. new schools have protocol to approving "official" invites, but have to make sure they will pass that approval (like Idaho board of regents, SMU BoR vote, whatever state board for houston) so have to more or less hold prelim votes to confirm. this has happened very fast and a lot of people are working hard to make sure it goes smoothly and all is done without violating existing conference agreements.

Will $10 million keep Louisville or WV from jumping to the B12 if invited? Or UConn from moving to the ACC? Or Rutgers to the B10? That I find funny. It won't stop any of that, just increase the money for the remaining teams.

it wouldn't stop us. even if that invite came before playing a single down of football.

Re: Ticket Ticker
it's just a money grab for the uninvited. they can't get more than that passed though.

Nice that we get to have input on new TV deal...Hopefully Fox will overpay and put us all over....
Re: Ticket Ticker
Is there any chance we play in the Big East in 2012?
Re: Ticket Ticker
possibly. i think as long as the deal is done before the scheduling is done. and we're able to get out of our CUSA deal by hook or crook.
