Re: ucf wins stats
One nice stat mot mentioned is that every UCF drive was long. Usually very long. It is incredible difficult to score consistently when one faces long drives.

At the risk of quoting Bo Pelini on an SMU board...
"It's not about stats, ma'am, it's about points."

Re: ucf wins stats
a couple of stats they didn't really get into...
the scoring.
kidding aside, special teams, RC specifically having 140+/- yards on returns (92 for a TD might as well be included in the offense stat - should really be called Scoring yards) made a HUGE difference in the game.

Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

It would seem there is an efficiency problem here...too much work...too little results.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

And scored 21 less points than us. UCF had a long field every drive. Even the best offenses have trouble scoring consistently when faced with long drives. Our special teams gave us points and good field position. Early. That allowed us to get a big lead and forced UCF to play catch up. Catch up is Hades if one runs a ball control offense with little to no big play capabilities. It puts added pressure on their defense and eats up too much time when they have the ball.
Add it all together and SMU has less pressure to constantly score and our D had the luxury of playing a bend don’t break scheme. With 14 minutes left in the fourth quarter and UCF down by 3 possessions, UCF ran off a 7:30 minute drive. They helped us! They needed a quick score, not a time consuming drive that only benefited us. I couldn't believe they were doing so much short yardage stuff but their offense isn't designed to do high risk long ball plays. It was kind of sad to watch them do our work for us.

Their backup QB threw a really nice medium ball. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes over.
Re: ucf wins stats
I wonder how this happened? As we all know, the team that runs the most plays wins, because defenses get tired, and offenses do not.

Completely agree. Can you imagine how scary Godfrey would be as a slot receiver? If they ever get that kid the ball in open space, watch out.

Re: ucf wins stats
By the time the redshirt Fr played, UCF was 3 possessions down and we were playing a very soft coverage. At that point, a quick score is the last thing SMU wanted to give up. We let them have medium and short passes all day. Let them us up the clock.
This kid may be great but we really didn't see how he handles a non prevent type coverage defense.
Godfrey was accurate on the short stuff we allowed all game. Hard to knock him for taking what we gave him. He really looked inaccurate on the long ball and I suspect that is why we saw the Redshirt Fr. UCF needed long plays and quick scores late.

I'm sure it was standard size.

We had them beat pretty good in yard per play.
