Re: Chauncey Briggs commitsHe got great size but based on the videos I've seen I think he has got a long way to go to be ready to set foot on the field--starting with conditioning, coordination, agility, footwork and technique. I'd be surprised if he was highly rated like some on Rivals think he will be. Compare him to the video of the Adam Butler kid that we recently lost to Vandy and whose stock has really risen-I don't think Briggs is anywhere close to the level of Butler right now and won't be without a lot of hardwork

Re: Chauncey Briggs commitsfeet a bit slow. hopefully fixable. I would tend to trust Klemm over anyone else on this.
Re: Chauncey Briggs commitsI have no problem with that but there's a reason he was the 17th Offensive Tackle Klemm offered

Re: Chauncey Briggs commitsWhat OT offer number was Butler?
Re: Chauncey Briggs commits
agreed. needs to slim down and work on quickness and agility, but has upside. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Chauncey Briggs commitsWas he a replacement since we lost Butler to Vandy?
Regardless, if Klemm likes him I'm on board. Welcome to the Hilltop Chauncey
Re: Chauncey Briggs commitsNo-Briggs was offered well over a month before Butler commited to vandy.
Re: Chauncey Briggs commits
Of course he needs hard work. This guy is pretty new to football and flew under the radar (if that's possible for a guy this size) in large part because he moved to Michigan before his senior year (from Georgia, so the Texas heat won't be a major shock). Hopefully we're on the path to Coach Klemm being able to redshirt all of his freshman offensive linemen - to teach them the way he wants things done and to live in the weight room for a year with Mel de Laura. Kelvin Beachum, Jr. needed a lot of work when he got to SMU (at what, 6-3, 240?) ... how has he turned out? I'm not saying this guy is going to be another Beach (if he is, at this size, he's a future first-round pick), but he's supposed to be an exceptional athlete and you can't teach that size. If Coach Klemm likes him enough to recruit him, I can't wait to see him in red and blue. Welcome to the Hilltop, Chauncey!
Re: Chauncey Briggs commits
If everything holds true through the rest of this season (knock on wood), we'll enter next season with 6 upperclassmen with game experience (including some starts). Behind them, there should be two Redshirt Sophomores who have yet to get on the field. Behind those two, there will (hopefully) be four Redshirt Freshmen from the 2011 class. That's a LOT of bodies to get through before the 2012 True Freshmen get tapped. Considering the emphasis on Oline recruiting since the staff got here, and the potential talent of those recruits, it would take a pretty amazing talent for a 2012 True Freshmen to break into the lineup. I don't like losing the entire line this year to graduation, but we definitely have depth building up. Hopefully we'll have 5-7 "depth guys" step up next year in their new role as starters. -CoS
