Josh McCown

Postby Red+BlueDude » Tue Mar 05, 2002 12:35 pm

Washington Post reports that the Redskins, picking 18th in the draft this year, would like to get a shot at Oregon's Joey Harrington. But of course, there's a good chance he'll be long gone by the 18th pick. If that's the case, the other quarterbacks Washington is considering (assuming Fresno State's David Carr goes earlier, perhaps No. 1 overall to Houston), are Tulane's Patrick Ramsey, LSU's Rohan Davey, Illinois' Kurt Kittner and Sam Houston State's Josh McCown. Another recent Post article said new Redskins coach Steve Spurrier really likes McCown's arm strength and running ability.

Good luck Josh.

Having been sold out by Peruna Punch as this site's resident Redskins fan, I hope Washington drafts McCown. Would love to see a Mustang (yes, McCown will always be a Pony to me) playing for the 'Skins.

At least Josh would be an improvement over any other chump (Banks, Rosenfels, et al) the Skins would throw out there.

Watch it there, DreadHead. We all know Banks is horrible, but never underestimate the abilities of former Iowa State star Sage Rosenfels. And anyone who even mentions Florida-ex (and new Redskin QB caddy) Danny Wuerthless should be barred from this board and sentenced to a lifetime of Peruna Punch's gut-rotting mixed drinks.

You have been giving PerunaPunch a hard time in your most recent postings....bad day at the beach last week??? Image
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

For the record, I've known Peruna Punch for 13 years now, which gives me full license to harrass him -- he certainly returns the favor. And no, I didn't have a bad day at the beach. Don't think there is such a thing. The only bad thing about the trip (for those who don't know and for some reason actually care, I went to Florida for a family friend's wedding) was coming back. Sunday afternoon (mid-80s), we were on the beach, beer in hand, watching dolphins jump, etc. When we got off the plane around midnight, it was 18 degrees! Talk about a shock to the system.

And no, PP, she didn't run off with some sailor. But thanks for the vote of confidence.

As a point of clarification: I never said the Skins were looking at McCown as a first-round option. The Washington Post said Spurrier likes him, but never mentioned what round the team might consider drafting him in.

Count the Philadephia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals and San Diego Chargers among the teams taking a hard look at our man McCown. Maybe not as a first-round pick, but reportedly they do like him.

McCown ran a 4.57 (electronically timed) 40 at the combine, and that was on a notoriously slow track! Where was that when he was at SMU? Good to see his hard work paying off.

I always thought Cavan should have called more plays to have McCown use his running ability. Who knows how many more games we'd have won.
