Haven't you heard the news?

What a relief ... Can you imagine our crowds if it wasn't a priority?

I've heard from his mouth and others in the administration that it is a priority. (2ndandlong on Orsini's commitment to ticket sales)

I keep reading this thread because it is kind of like a train wreck - you can't help but look. The sad thing, Otter, is that buried in your adolescent temper-tantrum on this issue are some legit questions that deserve answers. Additionally, there are a lot of people who AGREE that attendance has to become a priority (I vaguely recall seeing 1, maybe 2 threads about it). Take some time to compose a rational, articulate note addressed to the Athletic Department (RGV took a shot at editting for you, so that could be a place to start) and report back what response you get to your questions and suggestions for improvement. If you don't get one, then you have a whole new string of rants ready-made for you to unleash for our amusement. Message boards are great places to vent frustration, and at times are sources of great ideas. The down-side is, they rarely leave the board and therefore are a waste of energy. Go to bed, wake up tomorrow and try to affect change by making a positive contribution to the debate. Until then, let's please just end this silliness.

Gee - RyanSMU98 -- Thanks for your support. Steve O is just fine the way things are haven't you heard? He doesn't want to hear it. And Brad doesn't understand what the hell this marketing and sales stuff is all about.

I persnally know people who have offered to put together a strategic marketing and promotion, and ticket plan for Orsini only to be told that it wasn't a priority.

Lay your source on the line. What you're saying is baseless (again). (Wuba - where are you? You are the source enforcer.)

Orsini began his career in athletics administration in 1981 as Assistant Business Manager and Ticket Manager at Notre Dame, and remained in that capacity for three years until leaving to join the Dallas Cowboys as Ticket Manager in 1984. His background is ticket sales.

I've heard from his mouth and others in the administration that it is a priority. You have nothing to base this on except you heard from someone you won't name.

Wow, did not know that was my official role on here, always nice to know where one fits. I see giddy up basically covered this later in the thread so I will let otter answer his very reasonable questions. I hope and expect that otter will do so in a mature and civilized manner.

How about this Wuba??

Go [deleted] yourself. I forgot that post an hour ago and I feel like looking at it again. Oh yes - now I know why I didn't respond. I was uninterested.

But since you asked ...

Orsini was presented with this opportunity on two occasions -- once in 2008 and once in 4th quarter 2009.

I don't know how much money was spent on that ridiculous June Cometh campaign - ask your boy Brad.

by who? you? i'm sure if you approached him or anyone on the Athletic Department staff with the same contempt that you approach people here, you didn't get anywhere.

I don't know if it is official, but you're definitely reliable to call people out on BS claims.

My only complaint when it comes to Marketing is when I go to a store like Rally House Texas and look at all the giant sections of Texas, Tech, A&M, OSU, Oklahoma, Baylor, and TCU; I think, "Wow! If they have this much TCU stuff I bet that have just as much SMU stuff... Then I find the SMU section, and ask the sales person, "What the hell is this, you literally have like 8 SMU items compared to 40-50 TCU items?" The sales person informs me that SMU is extremely difficult to deal with on being able to sell their licensed merchandise in DFW area stores. Supposedly the reasoning is they don't want to hurt the bookstore's sales (which could do much better at stocking items people want to buy, like maybe having SMU licensed Columbia PFG apparel or a better selection of Adidas stuff). I don't understand who is being difficult here. But they need to fix it! And by the way, who gives a [Gary Patterson] that we have merchandise at some Wal-Mart store... I seriously doubt SMU fans shop at Wal-Mart for their SMU gear...

Orsini may well have gotten us to a BCS conference with our average attendance being what 23k, and we haven't won more than 8 games in a season since he got here. That guy may just be a freaking miracle worker!

They must not shop at Rally House, either. Otherwise they would stock it. This anecdote has been debunked many times. It is simple demand; it has nothing to do with SMU being difficult to deal with.

Thanks for the response, you certainly did not disappoint regarding the level of maturity and cordiality that I expected.

Why do you think Brad Sutton is my boy, or were you referencing someone else with that comment?
