Isn't it time to start thinking the D1 dream is dead?

Postby PonySnob » Sat Oct 30, 2004 10:23 pm

This program continues to become less and less competitive with each season. Every game is worse than the one before. I am sure our players are really trying, but when you can't field a team with D1 caliber athletes, maybe its time to try and compete with teams that have the same level of athletes as you do.

I wonder if Fresno's punter even travelled with the team?

It may not be the athletes...

SMU has done more with less since the DP. Think big time coach.

This team will not average 15k/game next year--it sucks too bad--then dropping a division sill take care of itself.

Bobby Chase played a VERY good game.

Otherwise, alums have to be wary of Copeland, as he wants to hire "Scoreless" Burns as our next coach. Now that decision would end the program.

I'm sick of Copeland. All of his success came from people hired before him. He's been unable to foster an environment at SMU where anyone can succeed. I'm tired of firing coaches and pretending things will change, they don't, we need a change at the top.

If we are going to fire at the top, where do we start; the board of regents and Dr. Turner ? They set the policy not Jim Copeland. Iam not making an apology for Copeland but, the tenor of how committed we are to the program is set by the board and the president.

Well we know not changing the Football coach is going to work, maybe a different AD could manage the current administration better?

thank you - mustangtu

like any other organization or company, its set at the top -

until that is changed, we will have nothing more than a carrousel of coaches & a coaching pool that will only get smaller & smaller -

i suggest everyone go get another hobby other than college football until the people @ the top are changed or they decide to change their direction -

bennett is a good coach & his resume speaks for himself so all the rest of u go get another life or accept the realities of the smu coaching job -

it ain't worth losing any more sleep over b/c they don't care & nor should we!

unfortunately - that is the way it is today on the hilltop on october 31, 2004.

D-II? That's Tarleton State and TAMU-Commerce! SMU can absolutely compete in Division I, and Conference USA offers a great opportunity to do so.

People who promote dropping to DII should be banned from this board (PS should be banned anyway).

I would rather drop football alogether than move to DII. Who cares at that point? I would never watch another game and I'm sure many of you would not either. I barely care about the pathetic list of teams we play now, let alone Tarleton State or Sam Houston State or whoever you might schedule in DII.

It would be a waste of time and resources and no one on campus or in Dallas would care at all about the team. It would cement a small-time image of the school in the minds of kids who might want to come here.

We ae forced to hope that one day we'll get a coach in here who can both recruit AND coach enough to move us to a respectable level on the field, then move to a respectable conference. We need to have both in order to have the football program be a positive for our school. Unfortunately, we will have neither one for foreseeable future.
