That may be their goal but implementing it would have been easier in the BE than it will be in the Big 12. Going undefeated is essential to most title runs and that'll probably never happen for them in the Big 12 at least not in the foreseeable future. If they have any sort of drop off at all they could become irrelevant very quickly.

It sounds like a case of Buyer's Remorse.
I thought that TCU made a good move going to the BE. They paniced when Syracuse and Pitt left. I have a feeling that their attendance will dwindle when they become the whipping boys of the usual Big 12 powers. Big 12 does give them a recruiting advangate over us with local prospects for the time being. But that will dissipate when they become perrennial losers and we are nationally ranked.

going back in history and the break up of the SWC, we were pretty happy to have the WAC rescue us and provide a place to play. Brought us together with Rice which has been a nice series between 2 private schools.
anyone remember that gutsy move Houston made to join the new CUSA? As I recall, there were only 6 initial members and Houston liked the fact they could schedule "nationally" with so many non-conference slots open.
bottom line...make your decision and then name it work for your school
TCU fans only have to look at their history to see what their all-time record is against Texas and have a pretty good idea what the future likely holds.
agree on the W/L record (although TCU would beat Texas last year and this year) - but their attendence will go way up. Lots more traveling fans coming into Ft Worth - that is the good news for them. We will still have to work hard to fill (or 2/3 fill) our stadium.
I think the Big East, if the projected 12 teams stay, is better for SMU right now. We would not be ready for the Big 12. I really hope that Louisville and WVU stay and give this thing a shot. I also really hope this happens for 2012.
For basketball purposes I definitely think this is better. Give Dallas kids a shot to play at MSG, something the other big 12 schools can't.

Baylor has averaged about 34K over the past few years as a member of the Big 12. I would say that is an indication of what TCU could expect if they fall to .500 and the fair weather crowd dissipates. Maybe a little less since Baylor has has over 5000 more students than TCU.
I don't think you are giving TCU nearly enough credit. I would rank their program third in the Big XII. Only UT and OU have produced better results over the last decade. TCU has beaten Texas Tech when they have played and aside from this season TCU has been better than OSU and much better than Kansas State and Baylor. Kansas had a nice run, but that seems like it was a long time ago. Iowa State is an automatic W every year. Be happy that SMU is where it's at bet don't kid yourselves, TCU is in better shape for the time being.

Waco is not a destination or primary residence for those schools though. You're comparing Waco (pop. 125,000) to Fort Worth (pop. 750,000, 16th largest city in US). Fort Worth has a much greater population of alumni from other Big 12 schools relative to Waco (not to mention all of the Big 12 fans in Dallas/Metroplex that would drive to Fort Worth before they would make the trip down to Waco).
Fort Worth is also much easier to travel to with close proximity to one of the largest, most central airports in the country.
I should tap the breaks on my statement that it will be packed, but I don't think Waco is a good comparison.

yea they've beaten texas tech in an isolated game. they aren't playing OU, UT, OSU, Tech in a row. Maybe they win 1 of those 4 in best possible case scenario? That's not a recipe for success. What do you think UT or OU would have done with TCU's schedule over the last decade?
