This was the subject of a very heated debate within the TU AD when they had to hire the replacement for Bowden.

Scelfo had not only a solid resume but also is from LA, went to school at NE? SE Louisiana? and had plans to make Tulane his last job had it worked out. He also had some success there before frickin Hurrican Katrina hit and cost the school $200M, gutting the AD budget - Scelfo and the school itself had some bad breaks. He's moved to being an assistant in Atlanta and quietly fits in well.

RR, on the other hand, was considered and up-and-comer already at Tulane. He never made any bones about TU being a stepping stone, and I believe he lasted two years at his next job before moving on to WVU, and there was drama there and drama at Michigan. That, and he didn't have to face a natural disaster.
Sooooo......

Whatever. I tend to think Tulane was screwed either way.

I just want to go ahead and throw my name in the hat. I think I can produce 1-2 win seasons with the best of them, and will work relatively cheap compare to other Div. I football coaches.

If they could afford to do it, Tulane should bring back Tommy Bowden with Rich Rod as his assistant head coach/OC
