Missing the PointSo many of you are missing the point. Yes our admission policies hurt, yes its hard to get Div. II transfers, yes we don't have "athletically friendly" majors, but that is not the root of the problem. Despite this, there is no excuse to get drilled week in and week out buy Rice, LA Tech, soon to be Tulsa. Heck, North Texas would probably beat us by 40. I don't think anybody expects Phil and the Mustangs to go out and beat Big 12 opponents, but good god, the competition we have been playing lately is at the bottem of the barrel and we look like we should be playing high school teams. IT IS THE COACHING STAFF.
Rip the band aid right off and start over otherwise this years recruiting class is going to be terrible and Bennett will have another excuse.
How does someone with so many hot sports opinions on the SMU situation and someone so “in the know†about SMU football wait until November 1, 2004 to make his or her first posts on SMU’s only fan forum?? That puzzles me.
And who let these new “SMU experts†out of the box? Its just not fair that they have been holding this great insight from us all these years.
Re:
They will come to blame the coaches when they come, they will come to blame the coaches when they come, they will come to blame the coaches, they will come to blame the coaches, they will come to blame the coaches when they come.
I see, so its the admin's fault that we get creamed by rice every year. Makes perfect sense - oh wait a minute - their standards are as strict if not stricter than ours. Josh, I wish I had Stallions incredible insight.
As for LA Mustang - go cry somewhere else.
and Rice has not been to a Bowl Game in 45 Years or the NCAA Toorney in 34 years. I don't waste my breath on trying to design a Model that will beat Rice-rather I want a program that can exceed. So you go ahead and worry about SMU's record against Rice thereby proving that you can't tell the Forest from the trees since they have gone a combined 78 years without ever reaching the Forest. But you will be able to glow in the THRILL of beating the Rice Owls. WOW!
I guess its just a miscommunication Stallion. I didn't say Rice was the perfect model that we should follow. My point is that GIVEN the current restrictions, we should not be getting killed by schools such as Rice. You made my point exactly - Rice is pathetic and they will never be successful, yet since Bennett took over they are more successful than us and kick our [deleted] both offensively and defensively. While I fully support a change needs to be made to the school's policies, Bennett is not the right man and just exacerbates the problem. Bottom line is they both need to go. You never seem to acknowledge the evident coaching shortcomings of Bennett. He's supposed by this defensive but we are one of the worst in Div. 1. You can't blame everything on the admin.
The model is not where it should be, but once again, the program is performing at a lower level than it was before we had Ford Stadium, and before admittance standards were changed. Unfortunately, Coach Bennett and his staff are a big part of the problem, not all of the problem, but a meaningful segment.
Do not let the more "established" ponyfans get you down anurep. The powers that be seem to think they can bash any new member of our forum and that somehow their impossibly high post counts make their opinions more valid. That's the reason I changed my regular moniker - I don't want to be associated with them and frankly didn't want to be ganged up upon for offering controversial opinions. I welcome you to our forum anurep and hope that you continue to bring your well-founded insight to our forum. Don't let the *astards get you down!
C'mon Ponies, Beat the Golden Showers, I mean Hurricanes!
Fellas,
Some of us have shown our displeasure with the coaching staff and AD. Consequently, people like PK and Stallion have countered with attacking the players, their work habits, et al. They think all the blame lies with them. We should not let our criticism of the coaches and Copeland get in the way of appreciation of the players. Sure, it is not the early 80's, but we have to commend their sacrifice. For example, last Saturday, Bobby Chase showed that he could play on any SMU team, and it made me so proud. I support the careers of these Mustangs by demanding a new coach and AD.
"the powers that be?" when did this turn into an episode of Angel? I wouldn't mind playing all our games at night if it meant the players all got some kind of super human strength.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
well it doesn't surprise me anurep, that you have had to change your name-it happens every year when posters like you make total fools of themselves in predicting winning seasons, bowls because of our "talent" et al. You got some friends on this very topic who obviously have done the same thing. But you know what-I've been the same ole Stallion for six years on these boards and have consistently preached the same message from Day 1 and for 15 years since the Day I found out what Kenneth Pye had in mind for the program. Guess what there have been a lot of people ljust ike you who have come and gone since the day I first starting posting on here.
Sorry, but....Sorry, but I have to weigh in here...
How can anyone defend this program? Yes, I just started posting yesterday, does that make me unqualified to state what is on my mind? Last, and final question: Do we have the worst Division I Program in College football today? Just yes or no, no excuses, no explanations. I want to see what everyone thinks. If the answer is no, who is worse in Division I?
